Question Why does new DMAX w/automatic

have more HP (310 vs. 300 in DMAX standard) and 590 pound feet of tourque vs. 510 for DMAX w/standard tranny?

That's strange.

I went to the Chevy truck site and built an example truck because I wanted to see the DMAX numbers.

I would think the transmission wouldn't make a difference, and if it did I'd assume the standard would have bigger/better numbers than the auto.

It's the other way around?

That means the DMAX tranny must be pretty good, better than the auto anyway.

Anyone know why?

They always did that with the gas vegicles so that they both had the same apparant power to the road. Also probably the automatic is easier to control emissions allowing a higher power while staying within EPA regs. The same engine that would smoke between gear shifts would not with an automatic.

I know to protect the driveline the LLY motor is detuned in both first and fifth with the allison.

Maybe they couldn't achieve the same results with the manual, and just detuned it in all the gears?

That's probably Chevy's weakness...they can't build a manual tranny that's worth a crap...that's probably also why they went w/ Allison for the auto tranny.

GM uses the ZF sourced 6spd. Same manual used with the Ford Powerstroke. From what I have heard the ZF is weaker than the NV5600. My guess is Dodge has the exclusive rights to the NV 6spd.
