Not a lot of folks realize that the old two strokes didnt make a whole heck of a lot of power before the turbos. The two blowers were just to get air into the cylinders. the turbos were what added the positive pressure to the intake and made it posible to start adding the fuel!

Yeah, no matter the cylinder count on those 2 stroke detroit engine, the super charger was needed just to get it run at all. Why 2 blowers on a 12 cylinder, because it is actually 2 V6 blocks bolted together with a common crank shaft and exhaust manifolds. They can run but god do they scream when you run them over 3000 rpm.
