if you are gong gas i would much rather a silverado with a 6.0 3500 srw. good truck strong. If you could find one with a 8.1 even better. however fuel cost will be up.

diesel like everyone else said go with a 3rd gen.

 

dont go gas???? Why limit what you can repo, theres a reason why all repo guys use duallys, id go with a 4500/5500 so you can repo anything

 

I agree with the single rear wheel 3500 gasser, STEALTH is everything in the Repo business. You really need every advantage to help keep yourself safe, some of these people will think nothing of shooting you over a repo.

 

Don't go gas, you can put a less noisily muffler on a diesel if you feel the need to quite it down. Like others have said go with DRW and at least a 1 ton aka 3500, 4/5500 if you can find one you like.

 

You can quiet these things down pretty good. Also driving habits have a big affect on noise. Mine is strait piped and I can be very gentle with it and it'll be quiet, or I can wake it up and make some really mean sounds.

 

How do you get into the repo business? You have my full attention!!

 

I would use any dodge with a cummins drw and an eagle claw backend. I belive the eagle claw is the most versatile and the extra weight if the diesel up front helps keep the front wheels on the ground when towing something you really shouldn't. I did repo work for a long time and this was my favorite setup. Another nice setup was an isuzu nqr with a challenger self load backend. Them cabovers get in alot of places you aint getting a dodge. The only drawback to the eagle claw is it won't hook at a 90 degree angle. But it also has alot of advantages aswell. The biggest tip is be quick get in get out no confrontations.

 

So many of them running around in Lakeside. I see a new one every other week! The one I see the most is a blacked out C/C silverado D-Max DRW.

 

I've known a few repo guys, one of them used a 3rd gen wrecker, but he only did a few repos that trickled in as he had a towing business. The other 2 ran chevy's. one guy ran a mid '80's c-30 with a 454 and a 4 speed that was warmed over pretty well, he ran single exhaust and 2 mufflers inline on it to keep it extra stealthy, said it still ran pretty good and it was near silent (or so I am told, never saw the truck in person). One of the other guys ran about a '98 or so c3500 with a 454 and an auto that was all stock except a programmer IIRC. Stealth is the key to the game, and a low profile, i.e. resist the urge to get a flashy truck. I think a late model chevy with a 8.1 would be a good choice but the fuel (and oil as they like to consume that too) bill would be a tough pill to swallow.

 

All of the repo trucks around here are single cab 1 ton DRW with a tow body. I have seen gas and diesel trucks.
