Repo truck, what would you get?
My Bro is buying a truck for repo work, his desire is for a later model diesel truck probably a 1 ton dually that gets the best fuel economy and longevity possible with minimal 'issues' to deal with, initial setup issues are fine but then he'll need turn-key and GO! He'll be 'stealing' all different kinds of cars, trucks, boats etc etc from peoples' driveways all hours of the night.
He's lost his current job and his best friend is big into the repo businuss and has a job waiting for him.
Notice I didn't specifically say Dodge, he's contemplating all brands.
If it were me I'd just use my 95 12v

I have a friend who used to have a repo business, and he's thought about starting it back up and giving me some night work. He and I have discussed this at length, and although I am very partial to the 12v, I believe a 3rd gen is the only way to go, as that gives you the best balance of a great tow rig and a quiet engine.

You're going to be towing very little weight. Think about it, most cars weigh less than 4K#. I wouldn't use a dually, because of the width and drag.
As he said, it needs to be quiet. I wouldn't use a diesel for this job.

Gas, with a great muffler will be the way to go. NO NOISE = Less likely to get interrupted during the repo. I will guarantee you will get more unwanted attention with a diesel.
You aren't hauling a lot of weight, so go with a single wheel. The dually will be hard to get in and out of some spots. Remember, these people aren't trying to make it easy to get the car back. So you will want every advantage you can get. Therefore, a dually won't be the way to go.
Short Form:
No diesel, single rear wheel....

Reg cab gasser 3500 SRW 4x4 with a stinger...the kind that swings out and the arms go around the wheels. extend lift and move to safer ground to secure.
No more then 20 seconds to hook up. Been there and done that...still get the odd call to help.

If you can find them...
2000-2002 Chevy Reg Cab SRW 8.1L and Allison, Dual BHMs (Big Honkin' Mufflers)
I road in a RV, BIG ONE, for my cuz. Tradition for his family is go to the local bar in it after getting "hitched". So here we are, all 24 of us, in a RV. He hits the throttle on a small roll and knocks about half of us on our tushies. Not expecting that one.
Does he need it to have a wrecker body?

All the repo trucks around here are one tons drw. Most are regular cabs but there is a crew cab dodge running around. And they are all diesels. The trick is to be fast...
I had a repo company drop off a 1 ton ford at my shop the other day. He unstrapped it in the parking lot, backed it into my shop set it down and was out from under it pulling away inside of 30 seconds from the time he took the straps off. The only time he got out of the truck was to take the straps off.
And my fav..

He's got it in his mind to get the diesel, his friend drives a late model chevy 1 ton dually crewcab diesel with allison, and has good luck with it.
speed is the issue morso than noise, they hook and drag then strap down the road somewhere else.

Sounds like the repo business is on the way up? Must be time to collect up all those new cars bought under the C4C program?
How quiet is the 6.7? Maybe a cab and chassis with the Aisin?

Any Cummins pre-2003 is going to be much too loud for effective repo work.
