Tx: I know what you mean. Dads is a 5 speed, and my buddy has a 5 speed with a fuel plate, 3k GSK, and 370's. That direct pull is awesome because you are losing no power, but when you lock the torque converter in an automatic truck, it pulls just like a manual. It will get down, and lug. The only gear it wont lock in is 1st. As soon as my truck hits 2nd gear, and i lock the converter its a like a lighting fast shifting manual tranny.
Loses no power.

I think I bought a new tow strap when my truck was still on order. Mine's a peg-leg, but with a ton of snow piled in the bed it will pull stuck cars out without too much trouble.
I once tried to pull a F250 that was stuck in the sand at the bottom of a boat ramp trying to pull a 25' boat out. It was low tide and his back wheels were off the concrete and sunk to the axle. I didn't think I'd be able to do much good but couldn't hurt to try. Even with roughly 800 lbs of people lying in the bed (cowering behind the tailgate to avoid a snapping strap) I just spun a tire.
A big Cat front end loader from a nearby construction site ended up pulling him out like he was nothing. We were all waiting for the F250's tow hook to snap off
