one of those days...

so I was dropping off a counter top to have it laminated, and they wanted me to pull up to the rear bay doors... cool...

back up to an open bay and notice that the bay next to me has a big ramp... might make it easier to unload. not that what I had was heavy by any means. I loaded it into the truck myself with ease, but what the heck, right?

so I had my driver's door open... just left it open... what's it hurting, right?

looking over my right shoulder, backing up the ramp, and all of a sudden it feels like I hit something or ran over something. couldn't figure it out because the ramp was clear...

then I look over to my left, and my door is opened way forward!!

there was a big stack of these huge 16ft pallates on the side of the ramp, and you guessed it... backed right into 'em w/ my door open. :{

did some hacking on the hinges to get the door to open/shut... lotsa air getting through now! :-laf

called my dodge guy up and he said he had a decent door w/ hinges he'd give me for $100...

and to my great surprise, the fender only has a slight scratch on it

so it coulda been a lot worse, but my ego took a pretty good hit as it happened in front of all the guys in the shop! LMAO!!

like I said... one of those days...

As a young man I convinced my folks to let me borrow their 71 duster. Moms pride and joy it was. so I pull up at the gas station where I worked and proceded to impress my friends and the owner of the fine establishment by lighting up the tires, well I did and when it finally hooked up I launched the car into the back of the building taking out around 30 feet of corregated siding also launching everything up against the wall uot the bay doors. I sat in the drivers seat contemplating ending it all right there, cause when my folks found out that would be the outcome anyhow. I finally got out and looked at the car to find nothing more than the left fender rolled edge next to the headlight slightly skuffed and dented. My folks never even found out. Lady luck was with me that day, talk about feelin stupid. Now that I write this, I thought of more stupider things I have done. Old man used to tell me, " I dont care what you do, just what you get caught doin".

This could very well turn into a great thread if every one would be honest and fess up to one stupid thing they have did!! Now to remember mine???? Ok here is one worth mentioning while doing a demolition on a house with one of my small dozers the mass between my ears had failed to log in the info that there was a basement and when proceeding thru the house I paused long enough to hear the loud cracking and down she went just like in the cartoons straight down, no pain, no hurt,no dammage to dozer just a embarrassed man sitting eight feet down looking up at the home owner and having to admit I had my head up something when I forgot he told me there was a basement . Goodluck,, Rick.... Now come on fellows and relent one of your most favorable ones you have done or been in!!!!!!!!!!

I was taking a good friend bird hunting on my grandfathers place one time and We were driving my F150 through some pretty tall grass and he asked me if there were any holes in the field the we would hit. I of course said "No I know this place like the back of my hand" The one thing that I forgot about was the irrigation ditch that ran across it. Well we hit it strait on going about 10-15 MPH snapping the front axel about 25 miles from nowhere. To add insult to injury at the time we hit the ditch I was sipping on cup of coffee consequently punching myself in the face breaking my nose. Talk about a bad day a long walk broke nose and no bird hunting and hearing my friend say over and over no there are no holes out here just ditches. I didn't top my brother though he shot the differential out of my dad's truck when he shot his first deer and forgot to unload before getting back in the truck. I have never seen a father that mad at a son.

Sort of like the door.

Had a 18'' foot wide building to move a couple miles and rather than get a permit, pilot cars, etc decided to do it in the middle of the night.

No problem on a two lane highway with shoulders right?

Too bad we forgot about the two foot eves on each side of the building and the lamp posts on both sides the road.

Lets just say the building didn't have eves the next morning.

Same sorta scenario here a few years back. Tailgate was down, and I was backing up to the dock. Kaboom...those posts that they place around certain things don't move.

My tailgate was toast!

Driving into my back yard this past July 2nd and got about 1/2 inch toooooo close to the gate latch with the right rear fender of my Ram. There's about a 1-foot long scratch/gash there now.

Back when I was about 18 (loud mouth know-it-all) working in a gas station. Bell hoses across the gas pump islands. Cars would drive in and over the hose and would cause the bell inside the shop to ring. A kid was riding his sting-ray bike with his little sister sitting on the handle bars and went across the hose at one island. I was washing the inside rear window of a car inside the shop. The kid rode over the hose at the second island causing the bell to ring again. I called out to my co-worker, "It's just a kid peddling his little sister's _______." I looked to my left and, to my very intense embarrassment, inside the office area was a husband and his wife looking at the maps and stuff. There was no where for me to hide. My co-worker was about rolling on the floor.

Like Deacon Wayne I was young, 14 years old. A buddy of mine and I did some under the table work for the convenient store owner (Dave) at the end of the street. Part of the deal was that if we had our own cups, we could fill them up at the fountain machine for free. This was great because on the weekends, we would stay up until 2:00- 3:00 in the morning working on small engines and go to the Dave's store to get drinks. Well one night there was a new cashier working, we walked in, got our drinks, and proceeded to walk out. This new cashier freaked, was yelling at us while we explained, and called the Police. The cop came, and told us 'He had talked to the manager, and no such agreement had been made.' I told him to call the owner; here is his number if you need it. The cop says 'I spoke with him too, and he also says there is no such agreement. As I was Dialing Dave’s number, I mumbled 'and you're as full of ----as a Christmas turkey.' When I was done on the phone, took all of 10 seconds, the cop told me to repeat what I had said, so I did loud enough for him and the cashier inside, to hear it. As he was cuffing me, Dave pulled into the lot. Dave told the cop it was a misunderstanding on the cashier’s part, and to let me go. The cop did, with a warning of 'watch your mouth son.' "It's kind of hard to.MR POOR LICE MAN when My mouth is below my nose and tucked in. He told me to watch it or he would arrest me. I said for what now. He said insubordination, My response was YES SIR DADDY. Well I had time to think about it, while my dad was on his way over. He got there, me in the back seat with my head between my knees. They talked, and i was allowed to go home with the understanding that I had car wash duty for the next 3 weekends. I didn't know Lee County had so many dirty cop cars. Up 'till that time, I had never been in trouble with the law much less having been cuffed. I have been a good boy since and my record is still clean.

Back when I was a junior in high school, my dad bought a 1949 Chevy pickup. Hey, in my family, this was a "new" truck......it was only 12 years old.

On Halloween, my mom and dad left to go someplace. The last thing he said to me was "Don't drive the pickup tonight." Yea, right..........as soon as they rounded the corner one way, I was in it and rounded the one other way.

It didn't take long for me to round up a few of my friends. Something like two in the front and at seven in the back. Since it was Halloween, someone came up with the great idea of getting some eggs and tomatoes and decorate some of the teachers houses. The first two went great, but on the way to the third, I had some problems. As we passed a gas station, a guy pulled out on a Cushman scooter. About the time everyone in the back stood up to decorate the scooter and rider, I made a turn to a street that went off at an angle to the right...........you guessed it...........everybody in the back hit the pavement. Jerry sprained his ankle, but no serious injuries, just scrapes and bruises. Johnny was about 6"1', 250 lbs, and had a little flashlight that he been shining in everyones face all night. When he stopped rolling, he jumped up and hollered, "Look, it still works."

I pulled over to the curb and stopped. About the time everyone had made it to the curb to lick their wounds, a cop pulled up. He asked me what was going on and I told him "not much, just stopped to stretch our legs", and he drove off.

Home free..........not hardly..........the cop was on the force with my dad!

Needless to say, I didn't to drive the truck for a long time and wasn't very popular around the house for awhile.

Just a side note: Your dad being a cop in a town of 30,000 has it's good points and bad points. It helped me get out of tickets that should have been written, but every time I got into something else, everybody in the house knew it by the time I got home.
