General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

If I'm reading correctly what you said, he OVERHEARD your conversation with the diesel instructor, and then went crying, pissing and moaning about how he didn't get $9.50 hr, maybe the instructor just calls them as he sees them. IMHO, your employer is a whimp, so the best way for you so solve the problem, is to work your butt off, learn ALL you can, help everyone that works there with any problems they have, take ALL the money they'll pay you. The old saying of "some day your slave may become your master" is true. If you like what you are doing, go for it, work your butt off and that .50 won't mean crap in a little while, after they've given you 2.00 - 3.00 more, and by the way, most companies will or used to pay for school training to further their employes knowledge.
Just do your job and the whiner won't last long, unless he's a really good brown noser, in that case, LEARN ALL you can and get better working conditions. But in a nut shell, LEARN LEARN, LEARN all you can, because it seems no one wants to get dirty anymore, they just want to punch buttons on a keyboard.

Pump's right ... if you follow these guys advise, the boss should be embarrased not to give you a raise when you are ready for it and that's right where you want him to be.

There are a lot of mediocre, "middle of the road" people on the workforce who only do the bare minimum for their pay. All it takes is for you to be honest, on time and willing to learn and give them your best each and every day and you will make a good name for yourself.

At least you have shown the boss that you are willing to step up and say something when you see something wrong. Now show him that you are man enough to suck it up and earn that .50 despite what happened.

Good luck to you,
PISTOL

basically, you have no recourse. they can cut you all the way down to minimum wage and there ain't a darn thing you can do about it (which is how it should be, IMO).

my advice: unless jobs are scarce in your area and you got mouths to feed other than your own, walk out. i wouldn't even give them notice, afterall, they gave you no notice of your pay cut, did they? it's a bad precident to set letting your employer step all over you first thing. once an unethical employer smells blood they'll never let up.

F'em. life's too short to go groveling after $.50.

There is also a book out there that's called "How to Work for a Jerk", a REAL friend bought it for me a LONG time ago, when I was working for a jerk, the bad part of it was everytime we went out to eat dinner, she'd ask me questions about the book and what it said, I had to read the freaking thing 5 times before I could understand and comprehend what it was talking about. I implemented some of the things I learned and had my jerk boss eating out of my hand, heck at one point he was paying me 10 hrs OT every week, above any other OT worked to not take a position in the company I was offered traveling overseas, that I didn't even want. As they say, kissing butt is an aquired taste, I just never aquired it , I just liked to use their own ammunition against them, and it also pays to make friends in the home office In the 80's when the economy got bad, we took a 15% reduction in pay, "company" wide, after the freeze in raises was lifted, I got the 15% back, plus $3.00 hr.
I vote to hang in there and learn all you can, then either buy them out or start your own company providing better service and pricing
