Dont worry guys!

Come on it wouldnt cost that much, think about it. Just wire it to a cell phone transmitter and your done. All it has to do is call a phone number with the vin and the codes being thrown. Basicly its like the BMW or GM where your car can make an apointment for service for you or e-mail you if you have a check engine light.

how many miles of road are there in the US? think about how many scanners that would be, billions of dollars worth of them let alone the time and money to install and support them. i could see maybe cars having integrated cell phone transmitter, but who is gonna pay the cell company every month for that line? im sure as hell not. and if thats the case we could just pull the fuse on the cell transmitter and it will never transmit again. this is just not feasible right now.

Angry My info and sources

Ok this is how OBD III has been explained to me by an instructor that was a program writer for all of the big 3. Your vehicle will be outfitted with an OBD computer that monitors and reports everything from washerfluid level, speed, locatoin, and the always fun one emissions. Now those are not the only things that will be recorded and monitored. Pretty much anything (and with the new technology even more) a diagnostic computer at a big dealer can pic up and define so will this OBD III. The biggest points on this system on being put into effect is that the tree huggers are saying that the emissions monitoring will help "SAVE US". The way that the system works is very close to the "ON STAR" system in GM vehicles. If there is any kind of problem with your vehicle you will be notified through some sort of communication by phone, mail, or e-mail. If the problem is bad enough you will be notified while driving your vehicle through satellite. Another capibility of this system is once you haved been notified of a problem such as an emissions code you will then be given a certain ammount of time to have the problem checked at a dealer or certified shop and fixed or they will electronicaly SHUT YOUR VEHICLE DOWN. If you are traveling at the time of this "SHUT DOWN" your vehicle will be put into the infamous "LIMP MODE" untill you reach a dealer or certified repair facility. SOUNDS LIKE FUN DONT IT Well it gets even better. They also have proposed working with law enforcement to help make the roadways "SAFER". Meaning reporting excessive speeding to local law enforcement in the area. Also say you are running from the law for some reason, guess what?? All they have to do is call in your plates (assuming they are the right ones for the vehicle) and then they can shut you down by satellite so you can be arrested. OH BOY. Basicly from what I have been told and read on the proposed OBD III system it sounds more like a "BIG BROTHER" monitoring system than anything else. Luckily everytime it comes up to be instated into automoblies it is shot down. THANK GOD FOR THAT. Oh yeah, if you are wondering, yes that means that if you blow all that black smoke that we diesel owners like to do when making big power you will be shut down and in some cases you will be ticketed even the first time you have a violation of any EPA codes and regulations that pertain to your vehicle. And for the guys going well I will just use a programmer and fix that. I have some bad news for you. Anyone that has worked on programming a Dodge CTD will tell you the the computers on our trucks are the most locked up and hardest computers on the market to crack compared to the ones in the D-Max and P-Stroke. Now imagine having to crack a computer thats about 100 times harder, yeah its a computer and it can be done but thats one project that I wouldnt want to have. And you do get a programmer for it you better hope its good enough for the OBD III computer not to erase on its own. Yep thats one more thing its suposed to be able to do. All I can say is again thank god that it has been shot down every time. And thats for all motor heads not just us diesel guys.
