General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I was always told that an I-6 engine produces more torque for its size than a V-8. Also, I've heard accounts where an I-6 engine (gas or diesel) will run longer than a V-8 w/o a rebuild. I think longevity has a lot to do w/ the stresses on an engine. The V-8's have more destructive vibrations and stresses than the I-6's.

And another thing...that guy who wrote the original post on that other website is on drugs. Obviously he's never been around any type of farm equipment long enough to know that some of those engines are pushing 400 hp and that they're either I-6's or I-8's...NOT V-8's. And those farm tractors aren't low rpm machines. Those farmers will drive around plowing the fields in the upper rpm range w/ the turbo screaming from the load!
