2007 6.7 smoking now, is something wrong?

Just turned 30,000 miles on my truck, so the warranty is soon to be over. Noticed this morning that when I got on the diesel to pass a big rig on the on-ramp to the freeway that I left a smoke screen behind me. We are talking the kind of smoke that many of you like to see from your 5.9 trucks.

Mine never used to do this. It has been a long time since I got a CEL, and I've been happy about that. But now I'm worried that something is wrong and the truck isn't reporting it. Knowing my luck, I'll get a CEL right after it turns 36,000 miles.

I have a few minor things to take the truck into the shop for, but I've been reluctant because I've never gone so long before without a CEL and don't want them to flash the ECM or something and change what has seem to been working for me.

Any advice?

Cummins engine warranty is 100,000 miles. Check you owners manual for warranty info.

Your emmissions warantee is longer than 3/36K. 5/50K or 5/100K in CA. You might want to get the J35 recall done as well.

The particulate filter probably has an internal crack in it.. As posted this should be covered by the emission warranty..

My dealer called me back and said they are going to change out the DPF. I guess it is a controlled item and will need to order it. New turbo at 18 K, now new DPF at 46K. What a pain in the ***.

If it blows smoke after this fix, and then the warranty goes by, then parts will start falling off the truck>

Let em fall off now, youll be happier in the long run and Id bet my next paycheck that you have no issues between now and the warranty expiration.

Heck, I bet it goes well beyond that trouble free.
