Re:Now this guy is smoking some hooch!
I get a kick out of reading alot of the posts over on Diesel Stop.com
Alot of those Ford guys will say anything to run down the Cummins.
Its a lost arguement, and those guys know it.
Like people on the Titanic saying "its gonna get better, were gonna be ok"
Yeah right!!
There is not even a powerstroke that has made 500rwhp!

Don't be haters, guys. They bought what they could afford at the time, and now they are spending much more to try to keep up on power. We use our trucks as trucks, they use the as a symbol of their "boyhood".
Re:Now this guy is smoking some hooch!
Some of the posts on that thread sound like a bunch of the politicians we have in Washington, D.C. - - - - - Full of hot air and theories - - - - - -but not much practical experience or exposure to the real world!!!!!

I get a kick out of them trying to justify their V-8 with BMEP numbers etc. BMEP is a good number to go on but has nothing to do with longevity.. Total BS there..
Also the rebuild numbers for the PSD and the CTD were flipped around. The CTD is rated for 10,000 hours, not the PSD and I highly doubt the CTD would go through 2 heads in 10,000 hours since my 89 had 8600 with the original equipment.
Duramax wasn't even mentioned as no one knows how long they will last. Its all speculation and for the record, I knew a guy at Cummins who worked on the engines and they are safely rated for 300 hp and that was way back in 96...
Funny..

Re:Now this guy is smoking some hooch!
My Dad, who doesn't even own a CTD, was the main influence in my decision to buy a CTD. See, my Dad has been a diesel mechanic and truck driver for 30+ years and he has never, ever been let down by a Cummins. To him a Cummins is golden and is w/o peer. So thats good enough for me. Steve

You guys forget, he "calculated a mean piston speed at the engines' peak horsepower rpms" - WOW thats pretty technical....they say a little knowledge is dangerous.....this especially true when you have THIS little knowledge !!!
"if what I hear about the 5.9 is true, that it was designed for farm equipment, then it was probably designed for very low power applications" farm equipment??? really.....where's JetPilot and Overfueled??? Someone needs to e-mail this tard the link to Maddogs drag race....how many CTD guys are pushing BIG numbers compared to Chevy and Ford???
Excuse me, Im already late, have to go outside and start my tractor... sure hope it gets me to work... ;D

Justin. I certified a Dyno run from a PowerStroke putting down ~520RWHP. I certified him for 500RWHP. becuase of a slight peak, but he was over the 500 mark for a long time. They are getting there. Although, the dieselstop.com story did require me to get out the hip-waders, it was getting deep!

Re:Now this guy is smoking some hooch!
a weak/bad/ford/chevy/toyota/isuzu/MB diesel is still ahead of the gasser game. I wish that I had realized this years ago. Better power and better milage.
Buy what you like, do with it what you want. I like them all. Well, not the new Ford. the old 7.3 is pretty good.
This is turning into a sportbike argument
...which is sad
