I got no problems with the International 7.3... that's a badarse motor. I prefer ours obviously. The new 6.0 is a different story.

Ever notice how the PSD and DMAX owners are always comparing their engines to the Cummins, and rarely each other's?

Everybody knows who's got the engine to beat. And they'll keep trying.

 

Going to hijack this thread for a few minutes. This is not on topic but the subject fits. Have just read the following story:

Sydney - An Australian who called police to report thieves that were trying to break into his home and steal his cannabis plants wound up getting arrested himself.

Police called to a house in Adelaide, capital of the state of South Australia just after midnight and discovered four men trying to steal the plants, which were being grown in two rooms there.

They arrested the men, and the 23-year-old homeowner, who was later charged with illegally growing 16 cannabis plants.

"He was calling from underneath his bed," a police spokesperson said. "I don't know what he was thinking. Perhaps he was smoking too much of his own product."

when someone tries to talk down the cummins, i just say hey there are two people in this room...the one that owns the cummins and the one that dreams of havin one!

 

The only thing I'll add to this is I recommend that those people go to Scheids next year and see what is going out the other end hooked to the sled.
It would be really neat if there was enough real honest data available to compare cost per mile between these engines. I like anything diesel powered but I have been on two sites tonight that almost made me puke.
I did see a D-max put down like 688 hp last weekend in NC and I saw another D-max spank a Z28 Camaro but lets run the D-max or the P-Stroke down the track with the little six equally powered and see who makes the most runs and who gets towed back to the pits first. I don't know about you but I know where my money is going.

But, what I don't understand is here they are with their V8 engine with more cubic inches than our I6 engines and they brag when they beat the smaller engine? I would think that the larger engine should out do the smaller one. I have had a couple of Fords with the 302 V8 and the 300 I6 and the 302 would beat the 300. I would think that there would be a fair amount of embarassment by getting beat by the smaller engine. Why do they think that they have the superior engine? I personally think that the tried and true would win out over the newer engines. I don't hold much stock in the "mean piston speed". What the heck is that anyhow? I would also think that the "mean piston speed" would be about the same no matter if it was an I6, V8 or any other configuration. For every revolution of the crankshaft the piston would move from the top of the stroke to the bottom of the stroke and back to the top. So somebody explain this "mean piston speed" to me so I can understand those more intelligent than I.

The mean piston speed is the average speed the piston travels up and down- it depends on stroke and rpm. The higher the mean piston speed the more difficult for the oil to keep stuff lubed and the higher the mass-forces of the pistonand pushrod. (Veeeeeery roughly explained)
