new DIESEL magazine
I got mine at Barnes & Noble on Thursday.
I think it was a good try for a first issue. I'd like to see more advanced tech than installing an aftermarket air cleaner and a cat-back exhaust.
And I'd like to see some real-world feature trucks instead of vendor show trucks. Iceman's 3500 and Dockboy's Ford come to mind - both are awesome performance trucks that also look good.

I bought a copy last night.
I'm not impressed. The shootout with the big three diesel trucks is a joke. And since when did the Dodge comes with a 5spd auto??? Maybe they had a Hemi and didn't know it.

I'm with MikeyB, saw it at the bookstore last night, wasn't impressed. That shootout between the big three looked like a reprint from a Truckin' magazine issue from last year, that article claimed the Dodge had a five speed too. If memory serves, they even used some of the same photos to accompany the article. Who wants to be Primedia publishes both magazines? The rest of the magazine just seemed to be a bunch of pretty pictures showcasing some impractical chrome and billet encrusted monsters.
I really didn't see anything in that magazine that would compel me to spend any money on it, I'll leaf through future issues at the bookstore if time allows, but I can't see myself going out of my way for this magazine. If they really want to do this right, they need to come up with their own content, not repackage someone else's info and publish it in the hope that it'll sell.

I am also not to impressed, the first issue has been essentailly been taken over by Banks, we will see for the second issue if Gale will let anybody else talk, not that I don't think he has some good ideas but I like to live life on the wild side and don't like the computer telling me how to drive my truck with regards to egt.. Definatley didn't learn anything, and the feature trucks are a joke I mean they should be in a paint and stero book not diesel book. Oh well still better than reading the wife Chateline in the crapper.

Most of the Mags are written for the, say we say, "Less informed".
These are folks that don't know that places like this exist.
They get their diesel feet wet with the magazine, then find places like DieselTruckResource.com when they want to "get serious".
Instead of hammering the magazine (who depends on advertising $$$ to publish, print & distribute), feel fortunate to be among the educated that realize how much knowledge, and experience in real hotrodding is really out there and on a FREE site (to you) to boot.
It's like comparing a reader of Hot Rod Magazine to Austin Coil (13 time NHRA Funny Car champ John Force's Crew Chief).

People like Greg aka: Dockboy and others should send in write-ups, photos, and timeslips to give them some good stuff to print. I have thought about sending in some pictures and timeslips myself. I may even point out the obvious lack of Banks stuff on my truck.
