New 600 turbo

What did cummins do to increase the 2003/04 turbo 555 foot lb torque to 2004.5 600 foot lbs torque. Is it the same engine? I purchased the 2004 555 in November 2003.

I was reading a 4X4 magazine. and they did a review on the new 600. they said its the same engine just with 43 more parts. if i get a chance i will read it over again and see if it lists the parts.

I'll bet 42 of those parts were to satisfy the environmentalist wackos in CA ....the 600 is the only diesel certified for all 50 states in HO form.

the article says some of the bigger changes were new pistons, which feachure a differently shaped bowl for improved combustion-chamber swirl, and a new computer that uses 550 kilobytes of code, nearly double the amount that last year's computer required. other improvments are fuel-injection system that feeds fuel to each cylinder in three separate doses per power stroke, a new geometry of the exhaust-manifold, upgraded turbo charger, 4" exhaust outlet, and a mopar accessory and cooling shroud that is mounted to the engine rather than the radiator.
thats the new stuff, chris

The Cummins 600's cleaner combustion results in reduced sooting of lubrication oil, allowing Cummins to double the oil change intervals to 15,000 miles for schedule A and 7,500 for schedule B (towing) for all 50 states to help reduce the cost of ownership.
Is that for real????

If I do not tow I can go 15,000 miles between oil changes? Seems crazy to me.....anyone?

The oil change interval has not changed from 2003 to 2004. It continues to be 15,000 miles for schedule A, which is very light duty. Almost everyone falls into schedule B (7,500 mile changes).

Isn't that just upgraded to the hx35???? (not much of an up grade when that was used on trucks under 200 hp..)

Nope, it's still an HY-35.

It's as close as you are going to get to a Dodgezilla turbo, without buying one.

I finally changed the original oil at 7388 miles. Dealer installed 15W-40 mopar oil (Valvoline). I continually checked the oil every 1000 miles and it remained very clean for first 5000 and then only began to darken. I will change my oil following schedule b for now on and the next oil change will be at 11750. Every 3750 miles. Bought 4 gallons of Valvoline premium blue oil for $29.00. This is the oil reccommended and endorsed by Cummins. After reading all specs, it appears to be a very good oil. Oil too cheap to not change every 3750. Especially with price of fuel these days. That is less than 1 tank full of diesel.

So now that cummins has the stats patrol on there side after duramax and powerstoke junkies flaunted the specs. does that mean we prevail? even tho my truck has less hp and torque than my friends psd Ive always out pulled and raced him. so maybee the spec are just paper. ITS ABOUT GETTIN' IT TO THE GROUND ! furd and duramax will just edge us out next year thats all there focused on not the quallity like cummins. All the diesel comparisons Ive seen cummins lost! mostly due to somekind of towing gear the chevy and furd has even tho cummins won a couple test . Over all they pick cummins as third what a joke gimmie all three and a log chain and a camera and well see.
