stock 04.5 600 turbo strength???type??

now that i have my clutch in i've been playing around w/ the tst box a bit. it seems on 3/3 or any higher when this little thing spools it does it quick and very hard ;almost smacking 40psi than dropping down to about 34-35psi or so. can any harm be done to these turbos fueling it like that? should i be keeping the numbers down on the boxes until i get something tougher; turbo wise? heat is not a big deal at this point; i'm not in it for that long to build a ton of heat. just want some smoke at times but it sounds kind of violent at say 5x5. also, what kind of holset is it? electronic wastegate control type; my35? not sure . thanks everyone

The stock 600 turbo is a Holset HY35 with a 9cm housing. I ran the TST box on 6-6 and just had the stock wastegate. i would hit around 46psi, however i knew i was goin to get a bigger charger. my suggestion would be to leave your wastegate alone, because just about anyone i have talked to has blown their stock turbo with the wastegate closed. I would also be looking to upgrade your turbo so you can use all 9 levels . why have all that power and not use it

Keep it on 1/1, that's your best bet.

what exactly causes a turbo to "blow" - curious because i've never seen it happen?

What causes your turbo to blow is it is under to much stress (psi)(to much fuel) and you will usually break the shaft going from exhaust wheel to compressor. this in turn will cause slop and then you will sent little peices of the fins/wheel everywhere. I could be wrong though. just a few cases i have seen.

the torque setting is what will kill your turbo
keep the torque number at 1 or 2 if you want it to live
play with the HP number all you want (until temps get too high of course)

Not to steal the thread or anything, but what turbos are on the 555 and the 610? Don't the 610's have electronic wastegate control like an HE351CW or something like that?

yes
the 555 is mechanically controlled wastegate
and the 600 and 610 is electric controlled wastegate
so there is no "boost elbow" for the 600 or 610

for my model year; tst supplies a boost elbow of some sort that clamps onto the line that you pull from electronic turbo mounted solonoid rendering the solonoid usless. the line that now contains the boost elbow is run under the engine block to manifold pressure through a boost bolt wastegating it in a conventional manner. i think

I would not put on the tst boost elbo. i believe that by not putting on the elbow on my truck saved the turbo. everone else that i know of that have put the elbow on have blown their turbo. trust me i was not easier on mine
