mileage on dyno oil?
how many miles do you guys generally put on dyno oil before you change it out? with all my other vehicles i've only gone 3000 miles before i did an oil change. i like that interval but now that im dumping 3 gallons of oil and a $10 filter as opposed to 5 quarts and a $5 filter im beginning to think that my oil change costs are going to put me in the poor house! even if i burn my WO im still gonna be putting a decent amount of money in the fill tube with the amount of driving i do. someone once told me that oil lasts a little longer in diesels, but then again, i've also heard that diesels break it down faster too. what gives?
I usually go 5000, just a good round number, but depending on your driving style the book doesn't recommend it until 15k or 7500 miles(dependent on how you drive) I might go 7500 but won't go 15k, just to many miles for my taste.
Oops didn't realize you had a 92.....I would go 5k and never worry about it.

One thing many folks fail to realize is that motor oil properties have changed very rapidly in the last few years but that engine manufacturers haven't changed the service intervals on old rigs accordingly.
This is very understandable.
Unless the engine is very modified 10k oil changes are safe.
The auto and oil industries are working together now to develop an oil that only needs to be changed every 100k. Idea is that the original owner will never have to service the vehicle.

I bought my truck a 1-1/5 years ago but haven't put that many miles on it. The dealer supposedly changed the oil + filter before he let me have it. I figured it's time for a change on GP. I got me 15 quarts of Mobil 1 Truck/SUV and I'm waiting for a day above 60 degrees to changer it.
I'm thinking about changing the oil in the Get Rag to that heavy duty synthetic stuff I read on another thread.
I've read that 10,000 miles isn't excessive but with my stop/go habits I will probably shorten that interval.
Does stop/go driving contaminate the oil in a diesel faster like in a gasser?

I do every 6 months, which works out to 5 or 6k. I only do this because my truck is severely overfueled. Back when it was closer to stock I did yearly changes and the samples came back fine.
Jeepsuck/Edwin: as long as the truck gets up to full operating temp most times you use it, 10k/yearly would be fine, (especially with that nice Mobil, Edwin
).
Jeepsuck, look for a truck parts store and you will find that you can get filters for your Cummins for $5. That will take some of the sting out of it.
