i bought a 85 lincoln last nite and it got a 2.4 turbo diesel in it done some research found that they only made a few of these anyways the injection pump on it looks just like the pump on my 93 12v has anyone ever seen one of these cars to know if the pump would work on a 12v.

From Wiki:

"The engine choices were a 5.0 L V8 and an ultra-rare (200-500 made) 2.4 L Straight-6 diesel. The diesel was a BMW design with a turbocharger. Rumors have it that a 5-speed manual transmission was bolted to at least 1 of these diesels. It was available on all trim levels until the engine was dropped after 1985."

It's a fair guess that the IP is a Bosch since it's BMW design whose cars are all Bosch where applicable, but whether it's a model that'll fit ours is another matter. Somebody did a post entitled "VE Pumps 101" or similar where he dismantled a variety of VE pumps and explained differences and possible upgrades. Likely on DTR, ... I'll scan back and see if I can post a link to it, ....

I have a 524 TD with that engine in it. I have a manual for the Lincoln too. You can do some of the mods on that IP that you do on the Dodge, but I'm not sure which ones. I never bothered because the tranny (like the Dodge tranny) won't hold up to much more power then stock. Yeh thats right, you have the BMW tranny too. There is a yahoo group called 524TD that has alot of info on this engine/tranny. You definatley want to check the condition of the timing belt if the previous owner didn't give you info on when it was last changed. If the belt goes then you will have a hard time getting parts to fix the head. The belt is good for about 60,000 miles. You're going to like the MPG's you get. I hit 40 MPG's every now and then and average a solid 37.

Yes, that engine does have a VE pump and it responds to the same tweaks.

Adam, are you asking if you could use the Bosch pump from the BMW on a Cummins 12-V? I would think that the discrepancy between the two vehicles' displacements would put that idea to rest immediately. But if you're asking if the pump mods we do on the Cummins would work on a 2.4 Bimmer oiler, they will.

You really should search a Bosch site for more information on the VE pumps that the 5.9L CTD and the BMW 2.4 TD used. While it may look similar, there is considerable differance between the two engines and while it may look like it will work, it may not in fact.

What's the plan for the Continential?

Too bad. Actually may be worth something as they are pretty rare.

Samari with an I-6? You sure about that?
