Keep It Or Leave It??

I have the opportunity to either keep my 2004 5.9 2500 or trade it in and get a brand new 2009 6.7 2500. yea my 5.9 has 130000 miles on it but that aint nothing. give me some input on this what are the perks of the 6.7 over the 5.9. i know the possiblities are endless with my 5.9. what kind of possibilites are there with the new 6.7? any input will be appreciated.

In that case I personally would stick with the 5.9 and not "convert" to the 6.7 truck. My preferences aren't either of those though as you can see in my signature.

Possibilities with the 6.7 are emissions...

I would keep the 5.9 until we know the 6.7 is dependable.

I would assume that since you are in CA it will be difficult to take off the 6.7 emissions equipment and get through inspections, or even drive it for that matter without CHIPs in your rear view.

Then again are there really that many problems with the 6.7? People some to forums when they have problems, not to tell the world how great their truck runs.

If you have the 5.9 paid off I’d keep her! The 6.7 might me nice, but she'll come with a payment book!

I would also keep the 5.9! Much more "trouble-free."

My dad has a 07.5 6.7L with 50,000kms on the speedo and it hasent bin in the shop once. He also has a 04 dually 5.9L with 245,000kms on it and hasent had any problems with it either.

Its up to you, but trade in value on your 5.9L will be alot less then what you want for it.

I've done a bit of reading on the 6.7 forums, and they seem like great trucks, once the emissions crap is out of there. With it in place you can't let them idle long, and you are supposed to take them on "long" trips so the DPF doesn't get clogged.

As someone else pointed out, it may be a challenge getting away with pulling the emissions equipment off in California.

I'd keep your 5.9L. Especially with the economy in the shape it's in. Just my opinion, but I hope it helps!

I'd keep the 5.9 just for the fact the 6.7 is still a farily new motor and not all the bugs have been worked out. I know couple guys who upgraded and regreated it, they left the emsions crap on the thruck theo. Also CA. may not be far off from doin inspections, I lived there,(actually grow up there) I know those tree huggin inbreads... wait and see they'll do it...
