Bomb it or leave it?
Hi guys, this is my first post on this site but have been reading forums here for about two months now. I have learned alot. My question is should I bomb my truck? This is my first diesel pickup and I really enjoy driving it but would like to have quicker acceleration and a little better throtle response. I was thinking about getting the 3705 superchips code reader performance inhancer. Should I upgrade the low pressure fuel system first. My lift pump went out as soon as I got it but fortunately the dealer paid for it and the bad mapp sensor it had. I checked the fuel psi and guage said just under 20 at idle (the new pump). Is that possible with a stock system? I realize I will need permanant gauages to monitor everthing. I don't have the money to buy a new vp44 if I plug in the superchips and it kills it. My truck is still under 100,000 mile warranty though. If I set the truck back to stock and remove the controller will the dealer be able to tell I messed with it? I have read about some pumps not lasting at all. Should I leave it alone and be happy I have a CTD or tweek it a little.
Oh yeah. this truck new to me Jan 8 2004
My truck a 2000 3500 DRW reg cab SLT with 75,000 miles five speed trans. No silencer ring and I think muffler is going to fall off pretty soon too.
Sorry about the novel but I wanted to be through. Thanks

Well that is a question that only you can answer, when I buy one I surely will but I doubt it'll have warranty or at least for very long. I'd probably wait for the warranty to run out or until I got a new fuel system (FASS), whichever comes first.
I can't say I've ever heard of that chip, myself I'm thinking of a TST powerbox. I want the one which displays the EGTs and boost in it, it'll adjust the power level to keep the EGTs safe. The only thing I've heard as far as a power box killing the VP44 is just don't drive around in the harshest setting all of the time. Yes if they look in the right spots they'll know it was modified, I believe it leaves traces on the computer.

The programmer you are talking about is the Superchips Microtuner. I have it and it is a very mild tuner. I think it is more of a timing box than anything (it adds about 32 hp to the rear wheels, the Edge without the wire taped about 60 and with it taped
). I have been to the dealer a couple of times and nothing was said (I have heard they know to look for the taped wire on the vp-44). If useing the tuner and you have to go to the dealer I would reprogram back to stock anyway because if they flash the computer while your program is in there the tuner will lock you out when you hook it back up (long story). You can see in my sig I have it stacked with an EZ. If you are going to go with one box I would go with something like the Edge Comp and not tap the wire until you are ready (when the wire is not taped the Comp is like an EZ). Then you get 2 upgrades in one. The Edge products and boxes like them have a boost fooler in them that allow you to raise your boost, the Superchips does not. The Superchips does stack nicely with the Edge product and gives you that 30 hp boost. One thing if you try the Superchips stack, run the tuner before you connect the box or the tuner will try to reprogram the box also.
Hope this helps

Warning!!!!
This BOMBING phonomena you thinking about. Is extremely addictive.Once your adrenline starts apumping. You'll dam the warranty, you will empty your wallet. You will find your self injecting massive amounts of fuel.Inducting ungodly amounts of boost.Once you start down this path. You almost certainly find yourself on the floor of some dark dank garage, wondering how you got here .If you are concerned about the warranty, dont start the process.Look at me, started bombing my truck with 18,000 miles on it,sitting in the drivers seat high on an adenaline rush.Injecting more diesel, pumping in more boost.Constantly work on my truck and happier than a pig in mud. Merv
HA! I started bombing my truck when it only had 8K on it! Box and injectors both in before 12K!
Go ahead and bomb...... you can stop anytime you want.....no, really you can.,.....

Thanks for the input guys. One of the reasons I was thinking about the superchips tuner is that it works as a code reader too. Can you clear out fault codes? I allready have a haynes manual that tells the meaning of some of the codes you can retrieve using the key method. Unfortunately my book stops at code 804 and I know there are alot more codes than that. Is the superchips any better?
Thanks again
Mike
