Jumper cable length/size

I'm having custom battery jumper cables made-to-order.

Question: what's the best length for general emergency use?

And, what's the best gauge of wire to use?

Thx, Rob

Agreed, mine are right around 20'. You can reach into the next parking spot easily, and most other situations where you would need to jump work great. Mine are from Snap-On, it's an on-board style, where I have leads connected direct to the battery, and a plug under the bumper, then the 20' cables I keep in my toolbox, and plug into the bumper when needed

I've got a set I made from red and black welder cables and parrot style clamps, and they work great. You can find really good deals online for the cable and clamps, or the local hardware stores will even carry most if not all of what you need.

I have some 2ga 20' heavy farm cables, they are perfect. They'll bust off another vehicle within seconds of hooking up.

Any longer than that, it'll get in the way.

Mine are 17' 4/0 Welding cable units with 1500 amp ends........ I wanted to do 20', but the welding supply store was low on 4/0.

Needless to say, I don't have to worry about jump starting anything, just getting a hernia getting the cables TO the place of use.

They can get a bit bulky.
