I have a John Deere engine in my boat, 6466A,it's rebadged as a Lugger, I have used Dello
400 30wt and recently switched to 15-40. Both work good, and give good oil sample results at 200hrs.
I don't go over 200 hrs though. I agree that your JD dealer
is a good place for filters(cheap) and Costco for the oil, by the case, 6-gal jugs around $36
I think JD now has a synthetic oil, and their Dino oil isn't real expensive.
Just out of curiosity I am wondering why you would change a boat motor oil to a multi-viscosity? I run 4-500 hrs per yr. and run only straight 30 wt oil. All the other charter captains in our area run the same way we change at 100 hrs. according to mercury marine do not run a multi in your marine engine.

On the tractor I change at 50 hrs or at least once per season. I would run the high mileage oil in yours and then change it around 25 hrs after that go to normal oil and maint.
