International 4700 Dump...Good Buy or Not?
Found a 98 4700 for sale. Its a retired moving rental truck, and now has a 17' steel debris dump. Has about 200K on the original 444e motor. 6 speed tranny. Asking ball park $6K.
Don't know what to check for, any common issues with these trucks, how many miles to expect from that engine, etc. I know there's a bad hydraulic line to the dump cylinder, but that should be an easy fix.
I've got a small tree care and bobcat service. This truck would really speed up my brush and log removal, but I don't know if I should be looking for a lower mileage truck, or a 466 engine. What do you all think? I heard it start and idle, sounded fine, no smoke, but haven't road tested.

Thanks. I'm going to get it inspected by the local international dealer before I buy it, I hate surprises. Seems like a pretty good truck, can't get an idea of its value though, all the commercial truck blue books want you to pay.

Hydraulic brakes. It has air suspension and an air ride seat, but no air brakes. I got some 32" grovers waiting to go on the roof some time.

LOL! Now thats funny! I believe you too. I'm gonna test drive this truck, but I kind of figured it would be underpowered. It beats a dump trailer though. In some ways. I'm glad to hear from someone who actually has a truck like this. So you think I'll be cussing this truck a lot? You got me laughing every time I read your post. Just how I'd describe a certain ford ranger I know of...

Hello! New to the forum so instead of starting a new thread just use this one. I bought a 99 international 4700 with the T444e motor dump truck. I can’t find anything on the web that tells me how much I can tow. I put 9000 pounds of shell in the bed and it falls flat on its face. Had to slip the clutch a little to get her going. I know it’s a high rpm motor but if anyway I can get a little more bottom end would be great. Thanks in advance
