Input on a '03

I posted this in the 3rd gen forum but I think I might get more responses if I post it here. Sorry for the double post but I might not have much time to make up my mind.

I need to pick your brains. I currently have an '01 and love it but my cousin is looking to get rid of his '03 auto 4x4 QC with 78K on it. I know my 2nd Gen like the back of my hand and all the problems associated with'em. What are the know problems of the '03s? Anything to be concerned with? I don't know the price but I imagine it'll somewhere @ 12-13K since hes already depreciated it out and just wants wholesale or less (hes very wealthy). It's mint condition also.

Kind of funny, but I was talking to the wifey about it and suggested selling my '01 to get the '03 and she said why would you do that? Sell the TDI and I'll drive the new one and you can just drive the '01. Sounds good to me...what a woman.

Re-Marry your wife! She rocks!

The 03 is gonna drive nicer and be easier to get power out of..But they still need trannys and lift pumps to be reliable. They still have front end problems...They do have better brakes though. If you can get a screamin deal on it, you won't likely regret it.

I'd go from an '01 to an '03 in a heartbeat. Much better truck and engine.

Yeah, she rocks...most of the time anyway. Hopefully it'll come in at such a sweet deal that I can't pass it up. I figure I will keep this one stock because I can only afford to bomb 1 at a time plus the it'll be the wifes and she has a heavier foot than I do.

The 03 will be a sweet ride. That TDI should bring some premimun money right now still. I would keep the 01 unless there is something wrong with it.

The only way that would feasible is if he can put the built tranny in the new truck, which i think is possible with a few changes.

I bought my 03 new in June of 2003, problems I have had are:

HVAC door broke off and you only can get hot air in your face nothing on the floor ... fixed 3 times

Universal joints replaced once under warranty at about 45,000 miles and I replaced them again after warranty expired with greasable joints this time.

All 6 injectors replaced under warranty at 75,000 miles were leaking down and made it hard to start really had to crank a lot to get the rail pressure up. not that it needed it but they also replaced the lift pump with the in tank unit at the same time they said the flow was within specs but on the low side. Replaced mainly because the Service Manager was an OK Guy unfortunately he is not at that dealership anymore.

99,000 plus miles now and still runs like a rocket.

I can't say enough good about my '03. They're just great trucks, plain and simple.

I ride it hard and put it away wet and it never complains.

I'm still waiting to see what he decides to do with it. I figure he's waiting to see what the big 3 do before he buys another but he usually goes diesel so there isn't much choice out there. His dad, my uncle, just GAVE his brother (my other uncle) a '02 Duramax 4x4 CC auto with 150K on it. He said that he didn't want his boy driving it anymore because of the miles and should get a new one...and its a creampuff. I really doubt I'd get a deal like that but if if its anything close, I'll take it.

BTW, I got to drive his Duramax and wasn't too impressed. Seemed gutless but it was stock. I'll take my Cummins anyday...unless its free.
