Question >>>> Injector Return Line ????

On my 2-cylinder R2500 Mitsubishi diesel tractor, I discovered that the little tube/nipple/whatever that the flexible return line should connect to is broken off and the return line is just draped over the fuel-tank.

The set-up at the injectors is similar to that found on our Cummins engines.

There are two big hex "nuts" (not really nuts, as no way can they turn) that are connected by a rigid fuel return line, with the one closest to the fuel-tank supposed to also have the connection for the line to the tank (the part that is missing).

I poked a slim drill-bit way back in the hole and it seems to be open.

I figured fuel would constantly be gushing out this orifice; but, when the engine is running, it only "spits" about half-a-drop every once in a while.

There is no steady stream spraying from it, nor is fuel dripping from the area.

I have been running it as is for several days, but intend to address the situation in the near future.

How am I going to fix this ??

I am thinking maybe drill/tap to fit 1/16-NPT and thread in a nipple; I don't think there is enough meat for a 1/8 fitting.

Give me some ideas.

Thanks.

Remove the hard piping as a unit from all the injectors, and lay it out on a bench, or carefully clamp it in a vise, then silver solder a return tube onto it. If you are careful, you can make a tube for it that will slightly press in, perhaps have it machined, then just sweat it in with the silver solder.

Fixed, just like factory, only better because you did it.

That is just what I would do. But then again, I'm Speshul... mom said so.
