I need HELP from Nevada Residents

Well after much deliberation I have decided to uproot my family and move them to Henderson, Nevada. I reviewing the DMV rules and regs, I found that they require diesel vehicles to be smogged. The question I have is with the mods I have done to my truck am I going to have a problem passing a smog test in NV?

Mods as noted in my signature.

Thanks

You have a dually so I'm pretty sure you are exempt. I lived there from 1998-2003 and my 2000 dually was exempt. 10000 GVW was the cutoff.

While you may want to go to the DMV website, I understand that the "smog" check for diesels is really a visable smoke check. There are currently 3 factory stock Dodge diesel trucks in Nevada so you are in good company!;-). When you register your truck, you will be asked to declare the GVW. If it's over (I think the number was 10k#) you will be exempt from smog but you will have to license it as a commercial vehicle and pay more for the license than you would have to get it smogged. There are only a few places that are allowed to do diesel smog (I think there are only 4 in the Reno area) and a quick phone call to one of them might put your mind at ease.

I just called the DMV. They ran my VIN number and told me that my dually is not over 10K lbs, so it does require a smog check. They also said that I had to have Nevada insurance before I can register it.

I thought California was the only place that was a pain in the a** to deal with. Looks like Nevada may be just as bad.

Nevada DMV is full of it.

Per my last post they told me that my truck is not over 10K lbs GVW. Well, I check the paperwork and the GVW on the truck itself and it is 12,200lbs.

Guess, I can skip the smog test. Thanks for the help guys!

I've got places in both states and Nevada is not much better than Cal. In some cases the insurance is higher and the reg is about the same. But in California ALL pickups are commercial because the law states that pickups are "commercial like", or something to that effect, so since it's similar to a vehicle that someone else is making a living with, you are commercial too. At least Nevada is not that ridiculous, and the DMVs are a lot nicer too.
I got my HO there but changed the reg to Cal. and haven't had to do the smog thing yet.
Keep us posted on the smog check, you've got me curious.
You might also talk to Carson Dodge in Carson City. They have, literally, hundreds of CTDs on the lot, sell the chips, and are tied in with TDR.

i have no problems with smogging my truck, it costs $40 at Jiffy Smog. better to get it smogged and be done with it, instead of waiting in line at the DMV for 3hrs only to find you still need it! you need to get them smogged on new vehicles too, ***?!!!

i dont think you should have a problem, and get ready to take it in the pooper on registration too.

As I had stated earlier. The cutoff for smog requirements is 10,000 lbs GVW. A 3500 DUally weighs 12,200lbs.

I will not need to smog after all.

Douglas County has nothing like that, just the good ol' Vin inspection.

Go to the inspection both in the dmv parking lot,and they will give you a paper that says you are exempt.
