General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

To me Dodge other than the last few years was always sort of on the side line.Back in the muscle car days, Chevy made the most power in a streetable car.Yeah I know someone will say the hemi but it wasn't that great a motor for a street car and it was in a Ford first. It was a great race car motor just sucked on the street.By the time Dodge got in to it the government was all over everybody about the emissions.

Look at the 12v motors. They were great but some what over looked for the PSD.I believe the 12v was better motor just over looked because ford sold more.

But now Dodge is really comin on strong with the 600 motor and the new Hemi they have now.

But as far as gassers go, I'm Chevy all the way.

I've owned 8 Ferd trucks from 79 model up. The 87 I have now is the only diesel one, but I never really had many problems with the gassers. The diesel's way underpowered, of course it's non turbo, but as far as interior quality/comfort goes, it's WAY better than my dodge. Drive's better, steers better, and just overall is more comfortable. The newer trucks I can't comment on, the only 94+ dodge I've even ridden in is my dad's and its a 98 stripper gas model. Rubber floor mat and all. But even his steering's messed up.
Don't get me wrong, LOVE my dodge. I originally bought it for the motor to put in the Ferd, but I just fell in love with it when I got it. It's a tank :-) It'll rattle your teeth on a bumby road, and when you corner it doesn't even try to lean. And that CTD power,,,, But eventually I'll get my CTD for the Ol Red(the ferd) Hey at least I have something to cruise Brice Rd. during the Mopar Nationals now,,,without getting boo'd even lol.
Anyways as long as it has a bed on it, I love it.

Many of my friends work in construction and Drive Fords Just last night a buddy of mine got in from toledo OH and he was driveing a Ford with the 60. PSD. he got 12MPG EMPTY and he said the truck had NO power.
I'm also NOT a JD fan. we have owned two in the last 10 years and both were well wore out by 2k hours. They are just not built to work. they are the smaller JD tractors with only around 35-40 HP. needless to say we just bought a new Bobcat backhoe to replace the one JD backhoe and it is 4 times the tractor.

I have a few friends and even a unce with Fords of all modle years and can't stand to drive them. not because of lack of power but because of the way they drive and the seats/cab room sticks.
I still say drive what you like but Ford is not for me.

We've got to remember that the Ford and GM guys are probably asking why in the world we keep buying Dodge when Dodge has so much ongoing transmission problem?

IMHO, every brand has its strengths and its weak areas and I just happen to choose to live with a weak transmission to have the power and reliability of a Cummins.

All a matter of personal choice.

No its not but I will never own anouther Dodge auto. 1 was enough. I wish I had looked harder at the Duramax/Alison combo so that my wife could drive the truck and I would feel safe with the tranie. As it is now I have a tranie that I am comfertable with but if fore some unseen reason my wife has to drive the truck she cant because I got the only Dodge tranie I trust.
