I dont understand
I dont understand
A friend of mine has a 96 Dodge Cummins that is absolutely unreal. It is a regular cab long bed 4x4. It has a aftermarket trans, Twin Turbo's, Rediculously large injectors and it revs past 4000rpm. He is pushing over 100psi of boost, yet still produces more black smoke than almost any truck I have ever seen. He used to dominate the truck pulls until last year he was banned from running the diesel class except for exhibitions. Last year when he came to the diesel day at the local drags, launching in 4 wheel drive, all he could get out of the truck were low 9's and one 8.99. I dont really understand why he couldnt get a better time. There were trucks there with stock turbo's, comps, and stage two's that were running just about what he was running. My old ford was even keeping up with it. All I had was a chip, propane, and 10k resistors. It ran 9.40's with a stock trans launcing in two wheel drive. With the diesel day comming up again in not too long, it just made me think of it. What do you guys think about this?

Re:I dont understand
The people that he pulls with are a bunch of cry babies. They got trired of loosing all the time. It was a really stupid situation, you should have seen it. The sanctioning people told him that if he couldnt tame down the black smoke, they wouldnt let him run anymore. You see the diesel class that we have here is supposed to be "Street" so they told him he could either do exhibitions, or he could run the 4x4 Modified class with all the alcohol pulling trucks. Needless to say he wasnt to happy. He got back at them though, he has a 24-valve with a Comp, Stage 4's, and a HX-40. He is still winning almost all the time. There is only one truck that ever beats him. It is a 4 door Ford with an aftermarket turbo, injectors, intercooler, custom chip, propane and nitrous.
Re:I dont understand
I'm guessing he has a 5 speed. If so then that's the issue right there... it's almost impossible to run a really fast time with that tranny. Try a race from a 70mph roll and see if there isn't a difference

Lots of Boost, lots of EGT, lots of smoke, but not too good power. Advance it up, or run NOS.

I wouldn't mind knowing more about this guy... or even a picture! Re:I dont understand
I was talking about 1/8th mile. That is pretty much all we have around here. The guy is running an automatic, so that is what makes me wonder. I think I have a picture of his truck somwhere, I will see if I can find it and post it. If any of you are from maine, you have probobly seen the truck.
