General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Same here. My last two vehicles were Ford trucks, both with the I-6. Very tough motor. When I crossed over to diesel I knew exactly what to look for. A big tough I-6 diesel. Just happened to be in a Dodge.

Westcoastr, you're right! They chase off anyone with something bad to say. Some of these people have 80 or 90 post and they tell them if you don't like it sell it!

First, I'm not the type who would knock the GM & or Ford guys .... if someone likes the other brands more power to them. I like the Durmax & PSD (but of course the Cummins is what I love). So, I'm just relaying what I actually saw. But I had long a wait on Wed at a business that I went to, so I decided to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. A beautiful 6.0 Ford dually (looked brand new) pulled up to light the traffic light near where I was standing. It caught my attention because it was so quiet, that I couldn't even hear it idle while it was sitting at the light. I thought that maybe Ford/International had done something clever with the pilot injection. But when the light turned green I heard him cranking the starter .... turns out it had shut-off. After about 30+ seconds of cranking, it finally started but sounded like a gasser that lost a few cylnders - blueish/white smoke was puffing out every coulple of seconds - like a cylinder or two was choking on fuel. Then it cut off again after he got about 50ft or so and there he was on the starter again .... but after several seconds of cranking, got it going again. I doubt if he made it very far though. I really felt sorry for him.

perosnally I think that back in the late 60's and early 70's the big three (Dodge, Chevy, & Ford) had there day. This was the time when car had more muscles than looks! But as time went on the Chevys and Fords seem to grow more prone to problems.

Trust me on the one my Dad worked for the Van Nuys GM plant! I still got the huge stack of books for the Chevy computers for 80's (Smog Controls, etc)

The funny part is we only owned one Chevy Truck and had to sell it because the MPG was too low (9-11 MPG)

Whats wrong with JD,over priced?

Ford guys are loyal,I should know I use to be one
But it does seem the problems with the 6.0 have subsided a bit,but there is still quite a bit of problems with that engine,I dont thing I would take a chance on one myself.

I have owned Fords, Chevys, CMC, and Dodge trucks over the years and use them for towing campers and horses. The Dodge is so far better at this than all the rest. I am not a brand loyal person as my loyalty lies with my billfold. When all things are equal, price rules the day. I tell my freinds when they get on me about a Dodge that I started at the bottom with a ford and worked up through a chevy and GMC but am now on top with the Dodge. I have pulled beside some of these trucks with mine pulling a heavier load and still can walk off from them. Makes them sort of upset.

I've always been a Ford guy, but I HATE powerstrokes!!

I was following a 6.0 "Harley" edition in traffic yesterday. **** thing smelled like it was running on straight motor oil instead of diesel!

dog meat vs feerd vs DMX

This is the worst piece of junk that I have ever owned and neither, you know who they are, know half of what I have had to learn about how this engine works. They don't even know how fueling works. I will get out of your way on the highway when this thing gets going. Yes it is that bad. The worst engine of the 45 that I have run.
