does anyone else notice that when you wait for the light to go out and then start it, you could almost just "flick" it and it starts up strongly? I have noticed that when i just get in and crank it that it doesnt start as quickly. the difference isnt much, maybe like 1/3 of a second, but its noticeable. anyone notice the same thing?

I think it is the operator that is strange!

Seriously though, that is probably your AC compressor cycling.....other than that, grid heaters will begin to cycle if the charge air temp drops too low - extended idling in sub zero temperature will do that even when the coolant temp is hot.

Yep I'm the same way... whether it be diesel truck, gas car, gas tractor, etc. Just a habit. I also do it in case a cat or something has gotten under the hood, I would think a little bit of clicking would wake one up since they are so sensitive to sound.

I just wait until the 'wait to start' light goes off. I'm usually puting on my seatbelt at the same time so I don't really think about it, once i'm strapped in I fire it up.

I only wait when the engine is cold (both trucks). The Dodge will start with no waiting when cold - the Suburban, no way.

I am like the others I wait for the wait to start light to go out, even when I drive others cars and truck that are gassers just a habbit. the only time I will go strait to cranking is when I get a call that that horses are out or in an emergancy that I got to leave fast.

Me too, unless I forget. They start all the way down to at least 15 without the grid heaters.

I dont wait unless it is very cold outside, never seemed to make much difference waiting. Starts the same both ways.
