How do you start your truck?

How do you start your truck when it's warm? Do you wait for the 'wait to start' light to go out and then start it, or do you turn the key all the way?

Don't know why, but I've gotten into the habit of waiting till everything goes quiet or out, then I start it. Never have had a problem with starting. Can't say I know it makes any difference, just a habit I have formed.

I wait... whether its warm or cold... just a habit. I feel like it says "wait to start" for a reason .

I usually wait a couple of seconds even when it doesn't come on. Just a habit like everyone else. My wife hates it when I do that in her car. "Why are you waiting? This isn't your truck!"

I hope you're not referring to the red dot "security light"?

I just start it up unless it's below 30 degrees out.

I am still feeling like it is my old 91 Cummins for some dumb reason when I start . So I just jump in and start cranking , but when it does not fire up after hitting one compression stroke like my old truck I think , I should have waited for the light .

Depends. The first start in the morn or after several hours then yes. If the weather is nice and I am driving around town then no. The truck says wait to start for a reason, but its not OMG I have to wait.

I usually "wait to start" myself but once it is started I have got into the habit especially when it's cold out to put the gear selector in "N" with park brake engaged and set there a couple of minutes letting the fluid circulate through the transmission while waiting for the voltage meter to kick over past the 14 mark, then it's time to .

I ussually wait for the light even in my gas car even though it never comes on. Unless i know my engine is all ready warm then i dont bother cause its only on for 2 seconds anyways and the grid heaters cant do enough to mater in that amount of time anyways if they even turn on.

When the engine is warm and/or the ambient air temp is warm, the grid heaters will not come on even though the wait to start light will illuminate. At this point, the wait to start light is no different than any other indicator or idiot light on the dash.....they all illuminate as part of the 2.8 second diagnostic check for lamp operation.

If the ambient temp and/or the engine is warm, just fire it up! Unless you just like waiting for lights to turn off?!?!
