Seriously though, that is probably your AC compressor cycling.....other than that, grid heaters will begin to cycle if the charge air temp drops too low - extended idling in sub zero temperature will do that even when the coolant temp is hot.
Hey prez.......I resemble that remark......but seriously, I am sure its the grids because the voltmeter drops down to 9 then cycles back up...even if the truck is just shut off cold then restarted......I figured it was something they built into the computor.....but I will keep an eye to see if it is just when it is cool outside.

I do exactly the same thing & I have never had a problem either.

Same here. Wait to start...light out. Go for it. Warm or cold. It's habit.

I also wait to start. While everything is cycling I'm buckling up anyway. Since this was my first diesel, I was **** about following the recommended starting procedure. Early on/in the beginning a few times I forgot myself and got in and cranked right away without waiting. I noticed that if I waited the truck fires up quickly/on first crank rev vrs several cranks if I don't wait. so, warm or cold I wait. If the gid heater light is on I make sure to wait until it goes out. I also idle for a couple mins before I take off.

The 2006's do not show the "wait to start" light most of the time. Only below about 40 and if the truck has been sitting will it even come on. I know that since I bought my truck in May, it was a good 6 months before I ever even saw the light. It's not like my '02 and '03 that had it come on no matter what.

With that said, I wait when it says to wait and don't when it doesn't!

I always wait for the light and make sure the TST Remote has completely powered up. 10-15 seconds at most unless it is cold. And yes I do the same thing when I get in a gasser now. I just sit with the key on until I realize what vehicle I am in.

I wait when I figure it's cold enough out for it to bring up the light, otherwise I wait for the noises to stop (pump pressuring up). If I had just turned it off in the last 10 minutes I just turn straight to start.

Boy you aren't kidding about the difference between the 91 and a 3rd gen truck! The 91 starts so quick it made me think there was something wrong with the 2007 when I got it.
I wait only when it is 30 or colder, otherwise just start twirlin it over.

That's exactly what I do too. I turn the key to "on", buckle up, and if the wait to start light is on, I wait. If the truck is warm, then the wait to start light will already be off.

You "resemble" that remark? Hmm....I thought so! Nah, I'm just poking fun you know!

That is odd behavior for the grid heaters if they are cycling when the charge air temp is hot....if the charge air temp is cold, then that is normal for them to cycle.....might want to check if there is any IAT codes....something else is wrong too, if the grid heaters pull system voltage down to 9 volts when engaged.

Jump in, turn the key and it starts, hot or cold, day or night. Never wait for anything. Never had a problem.
I do idle it out of the driveway which takes maybe another 30 seconds, then drive off, but do not push it past 2000 rpm until the diesel cold engine 'rattle' stops.

Wait to Start, goes off... then Fire that mother up. I've caught myself more than once trying to Wait to Start cars, and other vehicles.

Wait if I get the WTS, if not then wait until the security light goes out. Truck just seems happier starting that way.
