Heavy Duty Truck Wars

I guess the only way to settle their fuel mileage claims would be in a shootout. Pickuptruck.com will have test of all three trucks out later this year. And I canīt wait to read it.
Honestly I have to agree
How many million miles engines did Cummins produce vs GM and Ford?
The problem is, the normal (retarded?) consumer is not interested in this. They see 25 mpg and buy that new Ford because they think (always a bad sign) it is special. Well, it isnīt. If it even gets 25 mpg because you have to drive really slow to achieve these numbers.
Iīd love to see that 5.0 Cummins V8 in a Dodge Ram 1500 and 2500. But my prediction would be that this engine would produce no more than 2-3 mpg more than that big 6.7 I6!
I want a small I6 engine with twin turbos, 4.0 l and 250-300 horses. Lighter package, low end power and good fuel economy. And I want the block to be almost indestructible, just like the old 5.9 Cummins.

They said they saw 25-29 mpg using the "trucks electronics". Well geewiz, I've seen 28-30 on my overhead computer too. I was going 45 mph. They need to run that beast a real-world speeds then report back. I cant believe the Dodge was such an afterthought in that article. In my business I run across alot of hot-shot drivers. NO Chevys at all. Some Fords. Majority are Dodge. I think I will believe the professional driver before a journalist.
Just so you know there was another report that claimed 34 mpg out of the new 6.7! Of course this seems like a test conducted going down hill. So far the real world testers have stated 20+ mpg all day long. One big thing to help with the fuel mileage is the available 3.31 and I think 3.5 rear end (don't know the exact numbers). Of course neither of these would be best towing a big trailer.
IF Ford has this motor figured out it will be a huge win for them. With a disasturous 6.0 and not so good 6.4 if they strike out on this they will lose a lot more customers. One article mentioned the new motor will have 7.3 reliability.
Keep in mind so far Ford is the only one to develope, build, and put into production a diesel motor totaly built by Ford. The manual tranny option is gone. The F450's got a huge drop in tow and capacities ratings from 08-10.
IMO the new 11 Fords look nice but the new Ram dually looks nice too!!! It will be interesting to see how the Ford diesel forums light up after tens of thousands of the new trucks hit the road.

on a V8 diesel and until the others get close to being reliable like the big Cummins, keep dreaming.
