That is a smart idea to offer it in a 3/4ton as well. My sister tows her Jeep on a trailer with a slide in camper in the box of her 2001 Ram with a 5.9gas. It has a few mods and does the job but is horrible on gas and is working its but off in the mountains. She doesn't really NEED a 5.9 or 6.7 but a 5.0L diesel might just fit the bill. Especially since she only tow that load about 2-4 times a year.

I only tow about 5K#. I loved driving my 5.9L gas Dakota, but it was such a pig. It would get 6-8mpg with premium fuel. The Ram gets 16-18 on much cheaper fuel. If they put a 5.0 turbodiesel in a Dakota Quad Cab, I'll be down to the dealer real quick.

My only problem with this is how much does the diesel option cost? My guess is it will be 10-15% more then the 5.9 gas, and will only be included with the premium interior and exterior packages. At the point I would rather get the "big boy" diesel then its "little brother". Just my .02, a;; that aside, I want one 8)

The 4BT will never be installed in a new pickup. Never. It's way too industrial and heavy for the normal car buyer that doesn't want to "notice' it's a diesel. How many times have you heard someone say "you can hardly tell it's a diesel".

The 5 cylinder Sprinter engine would be a much better choice. Not for longevity, but for quiet performance and emission equipment. Way more modern.

Of course, I'd love to have another 4BT in an old Power Wagon or FJ40. The one in my Skytrak forklift is very nice. Rattle is music.

That I5 Sprinter engine is gone. It´s replaced by the 3.0 l V6 with 184 hp in the Sprinter and with about 230 hp in their car lineup. As a base engine for a Ram 1500 the V6 should be nice though.
