Got Myself A 1998 Cummins 12v
Hi Everyone, thanks to all for such a great and informative site. I tried to buy a 1997 12v here in the UK, but the guy seemed to have something to hide as didn't seem to want to let me take a test drive, just kept saying do you want it or not, also said tranny kept changing up and down at about 50mph so deceided to leave it alone. Then a week later I find a 1998 12valve quad cab shortbed with 160,000miles on it in Iowa for $11,500 a stroke of luck I felt, so took a chance and bought it. Took over a week fo my bank to work out how to get the money to the US
Now just spoken to shippers and should be picked up this week and heading for Baltimore I think on route to Southampton, UK. One it hits the water, should be with me in about 12 days - can't wait
Have had nerf bars and 3 pillar gauges - EGT's, Boost & Trans Temp fitted in the dealers shop and have just got via UPS, a #10 Plate from Machine shop Charlie. Next on the list is a KDP killer kit and a BHAF, Any suggestions on these guys?
Will keep you posted and thanks again for a great forum.

Wow - now that's a rare one over there, isn't it?
How about I'll trade you for an '01 - '04 BMW 330D with a 5-speed. Wish I could import that here.
But it's unnecessary to me now, I've found that simple and inexpensive are far more valuable to me, note my tagline...
Good luck with your rig...

show everyone in the UK what the cummins is all about, lol. I think u'll really enjoy the truck. Is it auto or 5spd? Hopefully if it's a auto u can order a nice TC and VB to really enjoy it. Either way, enjoy..
Hi Box5, yes it's auto, would have quite liked a 5 speed, but lucky to find a 98 12v so can't have everything I guess.
Will try to fund TC and VB but I guess freight charge would be high for TC as I just got quoted $150 extra for BHAF to be sent by UPS. See yall.

UK-RAM - You have some big ***** to buy a truck sight-unseen that is located on a different continent. With the mods you're looking at doing, you should wind up with a solid truck in the end, even if it's got problems when it gets to you. Your plan seems solid to me, good luck.
However, I would not think the freight for a TC & VB would be any kind of issue, considering the freight to bring the truck across the big pond. Of course I have no idea the complexity of shipping a vehicle, but is there any possibility of putting pieces and parts, etc., into the cab of the truck before it gets loaded onto the ship? Maybe too much coordination (i.e. the companies you will be buying the pieces & parts from will not be able to get the stuff to the truck's location).

Yea JyRO don't know about big *****, my other half thinks i'm mad, but I always try to make a judgement about someone then see it through and hope i'm right - will keep you posted on that one. I buy and sell plant, tractors and a few trucks etc and am just a little interested in bringing in a few trucks to the UK to sell on. But here no one much would appreciate a 12v so may look for Y2K+ or old original paint Chevy 3100 stepsides. Shipping for the truck is $1,800 Baltimore to Southampton so Bhaf at $150 seemed expensive, guess thats cause it's air freight. Customs won't let you put loose items in the truck as it's going RORO and not sealed in a container.
