Ford moving away from International with F150 Diesel
Ford moving away from International with F150 Diesel

I find it very sad that:
a) North American auto manufacturers have not taken steps before now to introduce diesel engines into their vehicle line ups. Diesel may cost more than gas now, but it certainly doesn't have to nor will it in the future and diesel engines are much more efficient than gas engines.
b) North American engine manufacturers are so far behind their European counterparts. What does it say that they expect to manufacture the Lion engine in Britain instead of here ?
As far as I am concerned, Ford and GM deserve to go into bankruptcy. It is the 1970s all over again. Big rush to get a diesel into some vehicles due to fuel costs. Japanese stealing more market share. Last time it was in small cars, this time it will be in trucks. Maybe International will go into bankruptcy again. If they lose the PSD contract with Ford, it would be a huge blow to them.

A lighty duty diesel pick up would be great. We need something to bridge the gap here.
Currently it goes something like.... TDI (wussy girl car... 40 MPG in the city-fiance and I have one in the stable and we drive it all the time these days)... CRD Liberty. Nice idea but IFS so no offroaders want it, no manual transmission option, full time 4X4 is the weaker t-case, looks too bubbly... and then of course, our trucks
But...Why all the V configuration engines?

I remember back in the early 80's that Mitsubishi had an oil burner in the small 4x4 pickem up. Weren't many of em but they were the Mistsu industrail engine from forklifts and such. what did GM do ? Put injectors in a gas block
Then everyone said how bad diesel was.....DUH
the only thing dumber they could have done would have been to try and reuse the carburator too!

Holy cow!
Within the realm of a powerstroke diesel? That is insane! How much of that Tq will a half ton owner actually need or use? IMO its severly over torqued and powered for a half ton work truck..... But for teh street or strp... man here comes teh blue oval competition again.. If they go thru with it..

The truth of the matter is that politicians and corporate america sold "America and American's" out a long time ago. We will be part of another country some day that kept jobs, and manufacturing at home!!
The Jeep Commanders are available overseas with a 3.0 V6 diesel that makes 218hp and 379 foot pounds of torque. It's supposedly the same engine used in the 300C, Grand Cherokee and a few others. Based on the E320 Mercedes engine. It has a particle trap emissions system so I wouldn't expect it to arrive here until the ULSD is in full production.
