'04 Ford F150 Commercial

Just saw the commercial for the '04 F150, in which it states something like, "..most low end torque of any model....blah, blah."

I've been meaning to comment on this for some time--Why is it that Ford and Dodge have opposite philosophies on gas vs. diesel engines as to where torque is most useful?

Ford's gas engines built for low end torque, and their diesels are high revving. The Cummins has low end torque and the Hemi is high revving.

They can't both be right.

...i dont understand ford.....it should be the other way around....the ford deisels are not understandable....in a truck that tows you NEED to have very good low end torque to tow something efficiently. in a gas motor it does make more sense to have the horses and torque at a higher rpm, people who really tow big things dont use gas (or if they do something is wrong with them(they may like getting 5 mpg ...) my old gasser was used around town it was a 88 5.8l efi ford :. that thing did has some good power at about 4000 rpm (had a cam in it to).......i dont know about fords ways....i dont hate ford that much cuz trust me if they had to cummins ho and the aam axles in the super duty id have it.....

Ford has been using American axles in the Superduties for a long time....Dodge just started using them. : The only thing Ford lacks is the Cummins in my opinion.

Disclaimer: Post subject to immediate deletion in the event that I am wrong about the axle thing. This way I don't look foolish. ;D

Personally, while I don't care for the looks of the F-150 (old or new), the Superduties look pretty sharp.

Agreed, superduty's are nice looking trucks, although there are so darn many of them here I've gotten over them. Everyone and their brother seems to have a powersmoke here in FL.

Re:'04 Ford F150 Commercial

Where I'm at it's the same thing with the '03 Dodge. Ever since I got mine I've been seeing Dodge's everywhere. Most of them are 1500's, but at first glance you can't tell a 1500 from a 2WD 2500 or 3500 (SRW). That's the other thing I like about Ford. They've made the 1/2 ton and the 3/4 and up ton look totally different from each other. I wish Dodge would have done that. The body of my truck is no different from all of the 1/2 tons running around. :-[

Hoss, Why do you need a truck body that looks different than the 1/2 ton's? It is easy to tell the difference most of the time just by the trucks stance.

I have to say i've seen many 3/4 tons that i thought were 1/2 tons at first glance. However once Ford redesigns the Super Dutys, the resemblance to the f150's will be much greater. Looking at their smaller trucks, they are all very similar to each other...the new Ranger, Sport Trac, Explorer, and even the Expedition are all very similar from the front.

Only with the 4WD's....which I don't have. You can't tell a difference between a 2WD 3500 (SRW) and a 2WD 1500 unless you look at the badging. Well, the wheels are different, but that's about it.

Maybe when Ford redesigns the Super Duty trucks they'll redesign them around a Cummins engine....since Ford owns Cummins and all. ;D

Re:'04 Ford F150 Commercial

I just saw a picture of an 04 ford. You know ford's new Dodge isn't so bad. Imitation is the sincerest formo of flattery. First they make the S/D look as much like a Dodge as they can, then they follow with their regular trucks. ;D.

Sure do look better than the 97/03 model. (thats not a compliment) Pontiac Azteks almost look better!

And have you seen the new Nissan full size?

I don't think the '04 F-150's look anything like the '03 Dodge. ???
