Duracrap Forums
Just coming from a 05 GMC Duramax, I can talk crap.
At 36,000 miles the radiator had to be replaced. ($1200) 40,000 the front hubs had to be replaced. ($1300) And the last one at 49,000, the injector pump crapped out. And to talk about customer service, I had it at 3 different dealerships and they told me that they couldn't even look at it it for 2 weeks.
I called GM cutomer service and they did nothing. The next day I traded in the Duramax and bought a 07 Dodge 5.9 Cummins. I also think the ride is better with the straight axel than the IFS. (talk about a weak link in a Heavy Duty truck, the tie rods on the truck are smaller than those on a Kawasaki 4wheeler) I am not brand loyal. I want a truck that will get the job done and last.

Back in my drag racing days (Mopar only of course), we used to crack on all the broken chevies - grenaded engines, torn up rear axles, blown up TH transmissions, etc., etc., etc. It caused lots of animosity vs the chevy guys.
One night at the track, some kid broke a rear axle, and the wheel complete with brake drum, axle remains, etc., came right out of the car, tearing up his rear quarter panel and spilling gear oil all over the place (he didn't have the rules mandated Mopar style rear axle bearings). I made a joke that "What will they do when the track's chevy tow truck breaks down" and almost had to fight a guy that overheard me.
Man was he ticked off!

May as well put in my .02. Read my sig, that's how I feel. My '02 DMax has had zero problems, although it only has 55k on the clock now. I love the truck. W/ the Edge it is fast as heck. Cummins, still hands down the best engine of the 3, but the DMax is good too.
An accurate assessment of the internet banter would tell you the Dodge is the most relaible. Here on DTR you see very few threads about probelms w/ the Dodge/Cummins and even less major problems. On Deisel place there seems to be a myriad of problems from electrical glitches to overheating LLY's to injectors. Never been to Dieselstop, Ferd site, but seems there's even more problems posted there from what everyone says.
That said, I don't know anyone personally w/ DMax or Cummins that are problem trucks, but know plenty of people w/ 7.3's and 6.0's that have troubles.

i personally think the gmc's and chevs look sissy compared to ford and dodge year after year for at least 15+ years....having a truck is as much about looking like a truck as anything else otherwise we'd all be driving a tacoma
I don't get the purpose behind a thread like this at all
We all hate seeing all the bashing that goes on over on some of those other forums....so why imitate it by doing the same thing here?
I mean who cares what emblem is on the hood? if it is an oil burner all is good

One of my buddies at work is diehard Chevy. To this guy nothing can touch em, and if it can well he'll find some reason as to why they are not as cool as the chevy, his main argument is that the interiors on Mopar Muscle cars wernt as flashy as the Chevy's (wernt Muscle cars supposed to be stripped?) He isnt really a Diesel guy but when I start talking Mopar i just get the same old thing. While I dont wanna start anything, My fiance's dad has a 05 LLY Dura, with around 400 thousand. I know Cummins engines are doing this all time, but I was really impressed with that number.
That's cool, 400k. There's some freak I'm fighting with on a website saying there are no 300k+ dura's, etc....he's a Ford boy, thinks it's tops. Trying to proove a point to him that the Duramax is killer compared to the PSD's right now, and that there actually are high mile d-maxs out there along with Cummins.
there a lot more out there with more miles than that...
Eric at Merchant Auto (big dmax shop) just took in a 2002 dually that gave up at 505k (original stock trans looked good as new, the truck had an edge and other stuff on it for its entire life). I know if it was a Cummins it would have gone for at least a million miles, but IMO 505k isnt bad for a 'silly little japanese diesel' that has only been around since 2001.......
he has quite a few other customers over 500k as well

I like Dodge trucks, and I love the Cummins...
But if I had to buy another truck, it would be a Chevy hands down.

Wow. Four pages, and I am actually posting too. I love my truck. My Father-in-law loves his truck. My Wife's Cousins love their trucks. We all love our trucks, unless we got a POS that is constantly letting us down. We all have different brands and different models/engines/drivetrains. Pops-in-law is dedicated ford gasser, Cousins love older chevy's with 350's and stroker 383's. I love the CTD 4x4's. But I also loved my '86.5 Nissan 4x4 (first year Nissan Hard Body) and '82 Chevy K-10 4spd. To me, My truck will always be the Best truck, until I sell or trade it for my next one.
I owned 4 chevys before the dodge that I have now. Only problems I had with the chevys were interior problems. All gassers except the 04 LLY I drove for about a year which was a great truck. No need for brand bashing I think the duramax is doing its job well in providing good competition in this market.
I personally am a Ford, and Dodge guy, with Dodge being number 1. However, my teacher at school recently got a 07 GMC 2500, and I was very impressed by it. True enough, I'm a sucker for anything that blows out black smoke, but I lean more toward a CTD. PS, and Dmax are pretty cool too, and the new Chevy interior is 10x better than Ford's to me, but I'd take a slight lack in interior quality, for a truck I trust.
Now if we could get a Allison behind those Cummins....
