General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I own both trucks. I own a 96 12 valve and a 2001 lb7 chevy. I have not had any problems with either one of the trucks that I wasn't asking for. I absolutely hate the dodge transmission, and I don't think I will ever break a transmission shaft in my chevy even at 500 hp doing boosted 4wd launces. I broke one in my dodge at less than 400 hp, doing a 2wd launch. I am definately on borrowed time with my stock allison at 500 hp, but if you re-learn it, and don't do any sled pulling or towing at 500 hp, you can make an ally live behind it. Both trucks have their strong points, with the chevy being the body, transmission, smoother rice, and 4 wheel drive system. the dodge has the pile of crap CAD on the front axle that is nothing but problems, even when it is posi-locked, it will slip out and bend the shaft that the shift fork rides on. The parts of the dodge that I like are the cummins engine for sure, you can actually work on it without owning a computer, and the injectors are a lot cheaper. The dodge feels like a real truck, whereas the chevy feels like driving a diesel (sports) car.

the little time i have been a diesel owner it does seem to me the Duramax guys are the quickest to call some one out. seems being to late to the game relative to the CTD & PSD they would be more humble. Anyways everyone else in my family runs PSDs and both 7.3 and 6.ohs! the consensus is DMAX are more for posers who really want a cadillac but think it is cool to have a diesel. i have only had oner person say something about my CTD and it was a DMAX owner. not a good sample set but it is what i am working with.......

my two cents.

I like having fun with them. Tell 'em I got me an '05 2500HD, pulled the POS Duramax out, sold it to buy a real diesel ('04 6.0 PSD), put the 6.0 in and man is it a dream. Interior isn't a nice as the Ford but it has "OnStar" so I'm happy.

Cummins is a good engine, I've had no problems with the engine, but from the tranny back to body and interior, everything is falling apart. And to top it off DC has the poorest customer service I've ever seen. Not trying to start a fight , but this has been what I have observed, so far.

Perhaps it is because I am new to the Dodge, but I am still blown away that a straight axle rides as nice as it does. I came from 3/4 ton Chevy IFS 4WD's and man, I gotta say, this 97 rides at least 90 percent as good as my best IFS setup.

I still dont get it.............Do you guys who have driven both really think the ride is that much better?

If you like how your '97 rides, you should go for a spin in a new Ram/CTD!

I owned an 04 LLY a while, I thought it was a good truck. It's certainly not the best truck out there period, and neither is the dodge. Both trucks have different strengths and weaknesses that have been discussed many times on this forum. So much of it depends on the buyer. Funny thing happened outside a bar not too long ago...Some kid saw my truck and began telling me that a stock duramax would outpull anything out there, best part was he didn't even own a diesel, and even better he had no idea what was under the hood of my truck but still told me a duramax would outpull it. Someone that ignorant wasn't even worth my time so I just laughed it off.

Its always hard for me to step back in these situations....a while ago the guy behind the counter at advance auto saw my truck in the parking lot and said something like "ya those dmax's are ok trucks but the powerstrokes are the real workhorses". I had no intenton of throwing down, I simply came in to get an oil filter so I said "yep the 7.3's are great engines, they'll definetly go for a while". He continues "ohhh no im talking about the new 6.0 liter. Nothing can touch them. They can tow much heavier loads than the duramax and cumminGs. Motor Trend tested them and the 6.0 powerstroke beat them all to the top of the hill each time, those things are amazing"

some people just arent worth the time, it does take some self control to keep from stooping to the internet-bench racer level, but it makes you feel better in the end when you look back on it...we all love our diesel's for what they are, and the things/mods that make them our own personal unique trucks....some people just dont have a clue

makes me want to print a sticker/badge for my door that says "yes it has banks, and it makes like 900hp, so watch your back"

Same here. I love to argue for one thing, but I hate it when someone has no idea what they are talking about

Even when you show them cummins' website that states "no ford does not own any part of cummins" they still won't listen. Stupid is as stupid does.
