DTR brain trust,,,, need help

Truck in my sig. line!

Live in the Houston area, and was rear ended, sitting still on a major hwy. because of a traffic snarl, by a UNINSURED, female,,,,,,,, won't call her a driver because no way was she driving, people driving pay attention to the road,,,, DUH!

Anyway question is, I've done a ton of work, at least to me anyways, all my own labor,,,, got the truck exactlly how I want it. BUT!,,,,,,

She rolled my receiver hitch plum up underneath and it curls back UP into the spare,,,,, I can't even find the 2" ball! Of course it curled the frame down and under on the passenger side from where the hitch bolts to the frame.

Truck only has 103,000 on the ticker, runs great, with about $3500 bucks of add ons,,

Do ya'll think it's salvageable,,,, or should I just walk away,,,,, good drivetrain waiting for somebody if that's the case.

I can post pics later, if you want to see them.

Thanks,
Paul

Yeah, that's probably repairable. The biggest issue is making the frame strong enough to tow with again.

Give it to a good shop and let them have at it.

I'm not a body guy but here is what I would do. Take your insurance payout and if the diffrence isn't huge buy it back. Take it to a nift shop and have the frame measured. If its good through the rear axle if keep it. Have them fix the rear. Especially if its paid off. Just how you like it. Nothing beats paid off. Or if its all biged up. See if its fixable. I'm going through the same thing. Mine was sitting in storage. And the guy next door dropped a tree on the garage. I thought home insuranced covered the truck but wasn't so. So I'm putting a new cab on. Its paid for and cost me 1100 for the cab. So ill still be ahead of a new truck

Found out yesterday afternoon,,,,,, TOTALED

Going to give me a little over $13,000 for my truck,,,,,, buy back is $11,000 and some change, body shop tried to find me a long bed,,,, said there wasn't any long beds to be had.

So I'm releasing the truck today if anybody in the Houston area needs a GOOD motor, with 104,000 miles on the ticker, 5 speed, Dana 80, air dog 100, Brand NEW Michelins

Guess I'll start looking for a 3rd gen, 5.9 no 6.7 for me.,,,,,,, I really liked mine, 2nd gen., but I guess I'll get away from the vp 44 and go with the cp... although I've gotten pretty good at working on the 2nd gen's , really, only trouble I had was with the IP,,,, and it layed down on me evacuating from hurricane Ike of all places , didn't quit on me, just wouldn't run that well.

Once I got the airdog on it with the new Pennsacola IP, everything was peachy.

Pretty high buy-back for an '01... still making payments?

Salvage title on that should be ~ $3K.

The driver at fault should pay!

No, it's been paid for a long time,,,,,, what you mean by "high buy-back",,, you talking about the money they gave me for the truck or the $11000 they want for the truck,,,,,, just curious.

If I had a shop or a big garage,,, I'd like to pursue the truck.

i think he means the $11K they want for you to buy it back from them. it is kinda crazy. my uncle totaled a truck a while back, they gave him $12K for it. bought it back for $3,500. another $3500 into it and it was good to go.

The insurance companies will usually negotiate. MY wife is really good at that. Her daughter totaled her '95 Accura a few years ago. My neighbor and I both thought they would be lucky to get 8K out of it which is about where the insurance company started. She ended up getting over 10K and near 11 if I recall.
