Does Diesel fuel need.....

a fuel stabilizer for long term storage like gasoline does? Buddy bought a farm tractor to use out at our deer camp 3 or 4 times a year. What would you suggest? Lucas fuel treatment? Something else? Thanks for your time guys!

You're going to want to use anti-gel additive at the least for cold weather and since most anti-gel additives also contain stabilizers there are many brands you can use.
Lucas would be fine.
I use Power Service.

The old diesel fuel would keep on it's own for decades but I heard the new stuff doesn't keep as well.
I've never experimented with keeping the new stuff more than a year but had an old diesel tank with about 100 gallons of 30 year old fuel in it in my bone yard.
Gave it a friend who needed a tank and told him to use the fuel for starting fires.
He ended up using it in his Powerstroke without any problem.

don't forget some biocide to kill off the algae that will grow in diesel fuel.

Sta-bil makes a diesel conditioner for when your storing diesel long term or if it will sit a long time in your tank. IIRC it also takes care of algae.

Also, pack a bottle of PS 911 when you head out. If its acting up this can help out.

keep the fuel tank full and it will prevent moisture/condensation in the tank. This in combination w/the fuel conditioner s/b good. Might want to add a solar trickle charger for the batt as well....cheap and easy.

ABOLUTELY!
We use biocide in our tanks even though they have a fairly brisk usage. Unless you suck it dry and wipe down the inside there will be some old fuel in there every time you refill. Diesel will support life and nothing will plug a fuel filter like a slug of slime mold. Also for long term storage, top off the tank. air will expand and contract with temerature changes and bring in moisture. So you want to minnimize the amount of dead air space.
