Dodge or Gmc ?
Dodge or Gmc ?
I currently own 2005 dually w cummins 6 spd. Looking to downsize as we have already downsized 5er to tt. Considering 2500 cummins 48re slt or laramie. Have had issues with vib's, universals, door seals . Truck is stock. Ha ppy other than that. Also considering gmc Duromax allison crew long bed. What i have found so far . Gmc. engine -so so. Allison- good. Ride- great. Interior - more comfort and better build than dodge. exterior- so so. rides lower than dodge Good or bad ? Torsion bars ? Some guys say issues with over heat and injectors are over. Allison Issues? Dodge Engine - great. Auto trans- not great? Interior- just ok, seats lousy seams in dash rough. Ride- More truck like and higher. Exterior - Very large new lights not so good fit and finish good. Bottom line both seem well built in different ways . Gmc more of a carlike road truck. Dodge more of a work truck ? I am leaning more towards the gmc for a work slash travel truck . But not if it will spend half its life in the shop instead of earning a living.I also think the dodge is a great truck. What do you all think?
Dodge had to throw them Large Lights on that Cummins.
I'm with you on this one.
Dodge needs to tame down on the headlight size. Getting a bit alarming.
Making first and second gen trucks even more in demand.

Both trucks have their issues. I've heard that they have worked alot of the bugs out of the D-max. Personally I like my Dodge. What I would do if I were you is pick the one you like the best and don't look back.
Good luck

As someone else said, pick the truck you like best. You have to make the payments no matter what the rest of the world thinks. The lower ride height of the GM vs. Dodge is a personal call. I tend to haul heavy crap (hit & miss engines) in the bed, so the lower height of the GM is a definite plus to me. I'm lazy and don't want to pick stuff up any further than I have to. I think the big headlights on the Dodge look cool. Then again, I drive a "scary face" Chevy. Good luck with your decision.

I drove a gmc again today , i still like it in many ways. I have a little concern about the "loseness" of the rearend when at highway speeds. If you throw the truck around a little at 65- 70 it gets a lot more squirly than my dodge. Now i realize thats not a great thing to do but it gives you a feeling of what it's going to feel like if you get squirly with 15K on the back .I wonder if the make a sway bar for them .

yep, Frederico Performance makes replacment front and rear sway bars for the dmax. HUGE improvment, one of my favorite mods.
Dodge or GMC? Good question! Read my sig. My 02 Chev has been great, only a little over 50k mi now though.
IMO, If I was going straight for a pulling truck, high miles, I'd still go Dodge without blinking an eye. FOr my purposes, grocery getter, tow the boat on weekends, family road trips, either truck would fit the bill nicely.
While I really like my Chev and haven't had any problems to date (bought used only had it a year now), just look at the forums diesel stop, diesel place, and DTR. All the internet BS can't be BS!
Fords----pretty much all problems.
GM's----- much less than Ford, but still lots of injectors and little electrical gremlins.
Dodge----Not near as many problems reported as the other 2.

I agree about all the other little things. I f you look at the other sites they are more than double . There are a lot less dodges on the road though. I love the simple aspect of my dodge , you can see things to work on them. I was in neg. with a gmc dealer but they are kind of rude over there ( the trucks are better and we dont need to come down).
