Re:Diesel engine noise?

..interesting. Mine is the 4X4 also. I'm a fairly conservative chap and don't see much point in begining to modify a brand new vehicle by installing a lot of aftermarket stuff. Perhaps after I have 20 - 30 thousand miles on it I'll change my tune - I'm not stuck in the mud here just frugal with my pennies - if some mod really improves the fuel economy I'd be very interested in that - if I can see how it would pay back over, say, 200,000 miles, for example. I ordered the all season tires because they are more quiet on the road than work tires. I dont expect to get more that about a year out of them and then I'll put on some good Michlines.

I love the sound of my 24V. You guys are right when you see the look of someone admiring the look and sound of the dodge. The only part I object to is trying to order food through a drive thru. Impossible with the Banks Monster exhaust. Otherwise I love the noise. Nothing like hearing performance! My opinion!

Re:Diesel engine noise?

The first gen engines also have their own sound. Not as high pitched knock from the pump due to the lower injection pressures. They are quieter, but not as quiet as the 3rd gens or the Dmax. Seems to be less and less of them on the road, but it has a distinctive sound VS the 2nd gens, especially the 24V.

The new Fords don't sound all that different to me. ???

Re:Diesel engine noise?

I like the sound of my 2002 24V with the K&N cone. I can now distinguish almost every sound nuance that engine makes and can tell when something's not quite right. IMHO that's what a truck should sound like. I've wanted a big diesel all my life - this is the truck for me, and it hauls *** and it works every day for it's keep. Sure there are more refined and prettier trucks out there but it's hard to argue with the no nonsense truck appeal of a Cummins powered Dodge.
