Cummins HO

I was told that the cummins high output has higher compression then the automatic transmission versions and that the vp44 on the HO cant push as much fuel.
Questions..1. Is it a higher compression because of a thinner gasket or are the pistons taller or what?
Question2. Can a vp44 from a automatic bolt right up to the HO without any problems?

Just Curious, thanks.
