Critters under the hood!!
So to keep them pesky wire eating mice, pack rats ect. away from trying to nest or gather your insulation for their nest building materials what remedies work. I have heard hanging moth ***** in a nylon sock somewhere under the hood works. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

we live rural and used to have the same problem on vehicles that sat unused for any length of time. Now days we put a light bulb lit on the ground under the vehicle at night. haven't had a mouse eating wires or vacuum hoses in years!

Thanks guys for the ideas. Sometimes when we're boondocking in our fiver out in the woods the critters overnight seem to wonder into the engine compartment. I have seen little foot prints in the dust and once even saw one looking right back at me when I opened the hood. So for when I am camping and at home I will try the dryer sheets and mothballs...

stoopid vermin had them over night eat out wires and kill the truck once we had a squirrel jump under the hood and stayed there for 15 miles until it decided it didnt have anything left to live for and jumped in to the fan belt of the 03 shutting down that haul till i could haul another truck out there and haul that one back only to find the squirrel wedged in the ps pump and block ! the old mighty Cummins owned by a kamakazi squirrel!

I've had to remove snakes, possums, rats and they were still alive! and one time a fish from vehicles transmission. Don't ask me how it got there. I repaired wires and hoses when they chew them up. The smell in the Air condition would knock you out, three cans of frigi fresh worked. They're making me money so leave them alone. I never had to pull a dog out of the engine compartment yet, I saw this today on internet so I thought I would share, poor guy.

Irish Spring bar soap is supposed to keep rodents away. Also peppermint oil. There is a commercial product for trucks and farm equipment but I can't remember the name right now. Will post if remembered.
