General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I would not turn my nose up to a 98 that was priced competitively with other years, either. But no way would I pay an inflated price for one.

You guys asked for an elaboration on the quirks of the 98 12valves, and now you know.

no sweat, I don't see fitting threads as a reason to pass up a truck... the rest of the stuff I'm calling non-existant because I've never experienced it and never even heard of any of those issues until I saw this thread.

poor ol' Jim Fulmer did over 800rwhp w/ his inferior 98 complete w/ the 53 block w/ the oddball threads... not trying to be a smartypants, but I really don't see any negatives about a 98 vs. a 97 except the interior! I prefer the earlier dash... but if you want a quad cab, there's only one way to go

Wow, who said the 98 was inferior? Why does this always end with 98 owners getting all bent at the notion that the Quad Cab, shortbed, and newer interior don't come without other drawbacks or compromises? All I said is that they have their own quirks and oddities (which I subsequently provided confirmation of), not they are a total pile of crap or something. Sheesh, talk about sensitive...

My KDP had not budged when I looked at it and tabbed it. I guess it's a non-existant issue, too.

Getting back on topic, being as the 98s tend to cost more that makes them even less ideal potential donors. Even ragged out examples are often given a quick paint job and resold.
