It's not your (or our) job to talk him out of it. Just let him buy it, sit back and watch him have the same ridiculous problems many of the Powerjoke owners have recently had.

I had a friend who was going to trade in her old Ford Powerstroke for a new one. She has had NO problems with her truck, 150K and tons of heavy towing, just gets a new truck every 3 years like clockwork.

I brought up all the recent problems, gave her a list of several websites to do some reading. After a couple days she drove into my driveway with a new 2006 Dodge 3500 dually, this was about a month ago. She absolutely LOVES her new truck and keeps saying she wonders why she didn't make the change years ago.

If you do the same, and give your buddy the info, he will either buy his Powerstroke or a something else, up to him. Not your job or ours to make up his mind for him. It should be entirely his experience. Also, if he chooses to get the Powerstroke and has what is becoming the typical experience of the Ford owners, I would not rub his nose in it, he will be kicking himself enough and will have done to himself the most amount of damage dollar for dollar.

On a quick note and not to steal this thread, but is anyone else noticing that the Ford problems are growing tremendously since the ULSD came into the picture? So are our fuel system problems, I wonder about the relationship?

my buddy did the same thing last year. kept talking about buying this '00 Reg Cab 350 powerstroke with all the bells and whistles from a friend's dad with 44k on it

i warned him and he bought it anyway. had it about 5 months and it ate up some brakes, and then the HPOP starting blowing oil everywhere so he sold it. 2 days later the new owner called him and said the truck died on the highway and he had to get towed in. 8 new injectors, and a new HPOP and $2700 later the new owner was driving again...but not very happy.

my friend now has a 2005 Dodge 3500 with a cummins...go figure

when he gets it, but a hitch plug that says remove to tow ford. when you show up to rescue him, you'll make your point.

If I told a Ford guy I was about to buy a Dodge he might try to talk me out of it. So what? Show your friend your Dodge, then let him spend his money on whatever he wants. Now, if it was a Ford he wanted.....................

I own a Ford and would have called myself a Ford guy for many years.
And until I learned for myself I would have called my friend all kinds of things for trying to persuade me into something else.
So a gentle nudge, 'just go drive one' and leave him alone. Well and 'read this roman candle report' Then that's it, it's out of your hands.

Ford guys have a tendency to be touchy when we don't know any better. I had to learn for myself and even showing me wouldn't help until I was ready to admit there was a problem.

WHY! If he wants one ,encourage him. That way you will have someone to laugh at later.I've got two buddies, one with a GMC and the other with his second Ford (both 6.0 that gave him headaches). These guys still give me flack for owning a Dodge and mine is the only one NOT in the shop.Just let him go ,these are the guys Ford is counting on now. Then just sit back and watch the "train wreck"

Your friend sounds like he has not done any research and maybe you should just tell him the facts and let it go at that. I used to be brand loyal and blind to GM until I bought an '85 Grand Am. Now I research a vehicle before buying.

The female owner of the company my wife works for was shopping for a truck for herself. They currently have two 7.3 Fords. She asked my wife how we like our Dodge and said that they had problems with one of their trucks so she is thinking about switching. One day she shows up with a brand new '06 King Ranch with the 6.0 and I asked her why she did not consider the Dodge. She said that she looked at the Dodge but the dash was too plain. I think it was a poor excuse for the pressure she was feeling from her husband.

My brother-in-law is always making fun of Dodges but he is constantly dumping money into his truck for repairs.

Sometimes it's really hard to break brand loyalty.
