Almost Traded my Truck

I rode by the local Ford dealership this past Friday night, and seen a nice looking 2002 F-250. I said to myself. Hmmmm, 7.3. I went back on Saturday and test drove it. I was ready to trade. Then I heard what they wanted for it.

They wanted $31,995 for a 2002, crew cab, 4x4 Lariat that had 48,000 miles on it.

They wanted to give me $10,500 for mine.

I almost put my bird finger up the salesman's nose. I asked in front of a large crowd of people, " What have you been smoking this morning?"

He said, what are you looking for then? I told him $25,000 for his, and $15,000 for mine.

he went to the back, and came back and said $13,000 for yours, and $31,995 for ours. I said have a nice day.

The truck I drove was nice, but i think I will just spend a lil money and make mine a little more creature comfortable now.

I am thinking of putting a set of captain seats out of a F-250 into mine to make the ride a little better on my tail.

Then a suspension kit to make the ride a little better, then a DSS unit to make the steering sharper. A set of wheels to make it look nicer, and then when money permits a paint job.

$13,000??

Looks like they needed to make an extra 3 grand on your truck too huh?? Where'd they come up with the other $2,500 for the second quote at anyway??
Jerks.

I have had very few positive experiences with car dealers.

Crew Cab, is that a true 4 door? or just extended?

That is the full 4 door version.
It ws super clean inside, but did not have the giddy-up

I like the 7.3's but no that much.

Bottom line is, I still have my truck. haha

Keep it.

I never get why people allow themselves to get smoked on trades when they know better.

I think my truck will be getting worn out (to me at least) right about when the kinks are getting worked out of the '07-08 F series diesels. That'll be my next ride! I guess that'll probably be oh, bout 2010 when I can afford the payments on one of those...........

I had a 7.3 and I would never go back.

Its not a brand loyalty thing with me its an amount of servicing thing.

I've had my Dodge long enough now to know the body/trim short comings but then I have an engine and LS diff that run circles around the Ford for ease/cost of upkeep and frankly I think the CTD is more enjoyable to run.
And my Ford was not perfect trim wise either. Certainly not so much better as to call it superior, just different.

That's way steep for that Ford, local Ford dealer here has an 03 7.3L f-350 crewcab 4x4 with 24k miles for 27k. I know because my dad is looking at it.

That's nuts! The '02 Ford sounds like a nice truck, but 32K is what people are spending on a NEW loaded diesel right now.

Mmm, might want to add 6-10K to that figure. We are talking 4X4, right?

If I could find a descent deal on a 7.3 Ford, I would have to strongly consider it. I work with the youth at my church, and my truck is loaded with kids all the time. It is not comfortable for them to pack up in it in the back seat in this Dodge.

I have a set of wheels for the F-250 and a Westin Chrome brush Guard for it also.

How hard is it to get power out of the 7.3? How does there tranny's hold up with the added power? At what poser level do you have to do internal work on the engine?

I have uncles

that have modded 7.3's. They are good for about 450 or so Horsepower before they start having trouble on the crank and so forth. My uncles have both of theirs at about 425 rwhp or so and i would like to say about 800 rwtq or so. The trannys seem to hold up surprisingly well, but they do have a lockup switch because the trucks are used to haul 53 foot car trailers around. They also dont have stock TQ converters on theirs. Having driven those trucks all i can say is WOW they move. and they have much better lower end than a 6.0 (powerwise) Im not sure what chip that they are running, but im pretty certain (bout 80 percent) that they have edge on their trucks. One was looking at a 6 gun banks tuner, but dont know what has happened since.
