added timing with Smarty

Just wondering what the added timing does. Does it make more power, less smoke, more smoke, higher egt or lower egt. Thanks

Well I dunno if you have a 2nd or 3rd gen truck, but the timing from the smarty on my '02 brings my egts down by about 50 degrees. Boost and power come in very quickly and smoke is easy to make on some settings.

It does many things, some good, some not so good.

I'll say it's all good!

Better fuel economy and lower EGTs is a big plus for me.

This is how I understand advanced timing. Our engines have four strokes, intake, compression, injection/combustion and exhaust. Advancing the timing means the fuel is injected earlier into the injection/combustion event. So say fuel is injected 13 degrees before TDC advancing the timing mean the fuel will be injected maybe 20 degrees before TDC, (these aren't real numbers just an example). This means the piston is exposed to heat for a longer period of time, so too much advanced timing can hurt.

greatly advancing the timing with high boost pressures and stock head bolts will quickly life the head and cause gasket failure. must be a tad careful. i say stud it and run it for all it's worth
