Less timing rattle without PS added???

Ok, I have confirmed that my truck seems much quieter without using the power service. Why would this be? I am running the smarty on sw5 and the timing rattle was noticeable but not real bad so then I decided to fillup the last two times and add no PS (I usually add about 12oz every time I fill up as long as I am less than a 1/4 tank). The truck is quieter without it, no doubt about it. anyone else ever notice this?

thanks

Yes, I have noticed the same thing. Cut back on how much PS you use. You are using too much.

Which version Power Service are you using. The Diesel Klean (gray bottle) has a higher cetane boost content than with the winter formula (white bottle). With the increase in cetane so does the timing.

During the winter months I use the winter formula and in the spring I switch back to the Diesel Klean.

I use the grey bottle. Like I said, doesn't seem to be a problem it kind of just clicked when I realized it was quieter without it. Like I said, when I add the 12oz, I always end up putting right about 30 gallon in so it is not a strong mix, but it is enough to increase noise.

thanks

Ron P,

You said, "Why would this be? I am running the smarty on sw5" Have you thought about that it could be because you have the Smarty set to sw5? Have you tried it with the Smarty at a lower setting to see what it does or even back to the stock setting? With it set to 5, does this setting advance the timing? if so by how much and how much extra fuel does it add?

DBLR, I hear ya. I understand that the SW5 advances timing. That is not in question. SW5 has timing and yes there would be more noise. No biggie. I just know there is more noise with the PS then without it on the same smarty setting. I was just curious as to why the PS does that. Maybe it is the cetane level as mentioned before.
