8.3 in a Freightliner Performance ?'s

I have had a few freightliners with 5.9's, but I just got one with a 8.3, it runs real well, what can I do to it to get more power out of it reliably? it is rated at
225 hp now and i think they were rated up to 300 or 330 in some applications...whats different is it turbo and injectors only or are pistons and internals different...its a 98 mechanical btw...thanks in advance rob

A lot of the 8.3's also have the P7100 injection pump, so you can start there with a plate/delivery valves/GSK... http://scheiddiesel.com/index.htm Scheid will be able to get you all the performance you want, I'm sure. Any time you up power, you decrease the reliability/durability, but small mods shouldnt hurt as long as you have at least a pyrometer.

I'm sure they would know better than I. What are the first 5 letters/numbers on the identification tag on the side of the pump?

that sounds strange that they say that. I have a DT466 and have a #0 plate from my old Dodge, plus I know a 3k GSK will fit & work in it.

They probably said that because this is in a medium duty truck that will see more constant heavier loads and sustain higher engine loads than a 1 ton truck.

Call Mark at TST Products. I'm sure he knows what to do to the 8.3 - he had a 550 hp 8.3 in 97 when I first bought goodies from him. Craig

On other sites, like TST & Piers, it's the same plate for both engines. Find the marine injectors for the 450hp 8.3, with a plate, 3k GSK, and maybe a second turbo, you'd be pushing some good hp #'s...past 450.
